Is anyone here going to the tuition fees march in London on the 20th? My freinds are going but I don't know if I'll be able to make it.

Where is it in London? If I am free I might wander down for some of it, even tho I am not in Uni yet (about to go on gap year).

Students would be better off on the dole according to the NUS
How many of you went to protest today and if you didn't bother, why not? Do you not agree with the cause? was it just too much hassle? or do you feel it wouldn't make any difference?

I didn't go partly because I don't agree with the cause and partly cos it was in London.

IMHO students should not expect to live a life of luxury. They never have done, so why does it have to change <IMG SRC="confused.gif" border="0" ALT="icon">

Also, I would prefer to have a fixed loan to pay off after graduating rather than the extra burden of a 'graduate tax' that is being proposed. That way we pay for what we use, not for some little prick to piss away his grant in the Union.

It's not a perfect system, and I accept that poorer students are potentially put off by the threat of starting off in life in debt. But no system is ever going to be popular with students and cost effective. At least the loan system gives students a bit of control over their personal finances.

I don't know where to stand. Paying fees makes students work as you want value for money. If there were grants, considering that *anyone* can go to uni now (even if you are thick basically, harsh but true), people would just go and doss.

The government cant want 1/3 of people to go to uni AND pay for it. I feel bad for my Dad (who pays for me). The poorest students get their fees paid for them, so I don't know what they are complaining about. Doing a part time job is not going to cripple anyone.

Well the idea of student loans doesnt bother me, so long as the interest rate remains at inflation...you pay back what you use. But the loan should be enouygh to cover living expenses, which it patently isnt...Im already £600 overdrawn, and I arent the last of the big-time boozers.

The tuition fees are a fucking disgrace, though...education is a right not a privilede. if everyone decided to ignore a Uni education this country would be fucked in a amtter of years.

I didn't go because I didn't have the time. I'm failing at the moment and I need to get my arse in gear. This doesn't help my financial situation. Ideally a weekend job could help me financially, but my studies come first, and as this is my final year, the pressure is on to work as hard as possible, so I have no time for a part-time job.

It's such a hard question because on the one hand there are quite obviously many students who are loaded, can keep expensive cars on the road and spend their time in bars and clubs, on the other hand there are those students who's parents cannot even afford to support themelves let alone contribute to one or more childs schooling.

If you get rid of tuition fees and restore grants to all then some of the richer members of society will be richer while the poor just struggle through.

If you deny all then you hit the poor ones hardest.

If I was a student I probably would have gone on the march - but then....my form of protest when I was a student was refusing to take out a student loan and a lot of good that did me. Ended up in debt to the bank for years.
