What are you going to do in the summer break?
I know it's a long way off, but for me I have nearly 4 months till I go back to uni (that's if I go back at all) and don't know what to do. It is best to plan it now. I don't want to spend my time watching daytime TV and sleeping in all day! There's a lot of schemes out there, temping jobs (arrrggh), or alternatively could just laze about on holiday. Please tell me your plans!
:-)

Work, Work, and some more Work.
I pay for the majority of my university expenses so the more I work during the summer, the less stressful the school year is for me.

Other than that I may spend a weekend or two at the beach with some of my friends. Also maybe go visit some of my relatives with the family.

Hopefully other people have more exciting plans than I do.

I'm gonna get some work, maybe through an agency, to build up some source of funding for my PhD.
I'm hoping that the job I get will be ongoing throughout the course (I'm hoping to do it part time), so that I can keep funding myself and buy bread.

Glastonbury, maybe Reading too. Generally getting shit-faced and doing 15 hours a week at work to keep me that way.

Well my gap year starts in August.

Anyway this coming easter holiday I'm helping DoE golds for a while. Then a rest for 2 days, then 2 weeks mountaineering in Scotland. Then one days rest then help lead DoE silvers around somewhere in the uk (can't renember where)

Then in April assisting with people taking the BELA course, and taking another DoE group. May is another 2 Silver DoE trips. Not much in June/July as I have exams - just one long weekend helping out with Bela. Come August a week of ML (Mountain Leader) training in Snowdonia followed by another 3 weeks of Mountaineering/kayaking. September is another BELA week and another DoE trip, and probably my ML assessment and exam.

Haven't got any other dates past then

Oh yeh during my gap year as well as that ML scheme I mentioned I have got Kayak 3 star, Kayak 2 star Coach, First Aid, Lifeguard, SPA (Climbing instructor), Volleyball Coach level II, Volleyball ref level 3, some sort of sailing qualification, Gym and fitness instructor, and possibly basic openwater for scuba diving.

And during my spare time I will be working to pay for those courses, and working on my website. *may be a little busy*

Well you did say you wanted to hear my plans.......

Wow you are well busy! Alistair, did you know that if you go to work for PGL you can do many of those courses you mentioned and they will pay for you to do them? I know cos I worked there last summer! It just sounds like something you would be interested in.

I might go on holiday with friends, I dunno. Over the holidays I'll probably just work a few extra shifts every week. Save up loadsa money for a rainy day. Not very interesting I know, but then I want to leave uni without debts

I'm already getting a lot of them very heavily subsidised as I am an assistant with the schools DoE department, and with the Open Award Centre (a sort of outdoor club that also does DoE) that is also run from my school. In return for me helping supervise and teach groups, they heavily subsidise my courses that relate to that area. But thanks a lot for the PGL mention - just took a look at their website, and I might work as a Hillwalking or climbing instructor later on in the year to earn some money.

    Thanks

going on holiday, working, maybe another holiday. sleeping till mid afternoon getting up, drinking beer etc also sounds good.

whatever really. one of my mates though is possibly going to Mauritus to do scuba diving and surveying a coral reef - lucky git. He took a year out last year and went to africa to teach kids and do safari's etc as well.

I wanna travel the world with my gf, but neither of us can afford it So, instead, Im gonna work to pay off my overdraft, so that next year I can go back to Uni with no debt.

Sad, maybe, boring, defintely...but such is life

I'm graduating this year (I hope) so I'll be spending the summer trawling around the country looking for jobs. However, if I need to do any resits I'll be doing revision as well (as I have been doing for the past two summers).
