  Well I have just started an English and Philosophy degree and I find that as I have to pay for it(well, my Dad), i get really annoyed if the lectures start late. My lectures have about 500 people in them, so if one person is coughing then you can't hear. I don't really think it's value for money!

  Definitely. And there's a simple solution: reverese the year-on-year increase in student numbers. Universities are meant to be academically elite institutions, not further education colleges for Joe Bloggs and mates. If such people want to study further, give them more vocational training - academe is for academics, of which there are far fewer than current government targets seek to imply.

  Nah, I think the previous bit made my opinions fairly clear.

  They never were "free." The government covers about 90% of the costs for us UK students - we should count ourselves lucky.

  You're damn right we need a rational code of morality and ethics. But not much progress can be made in that direction while we've still got a majority ranting about gods, devils, souls, and absolute morality, and using an ancient book written by ignorant nomads as a guide.
