In hospital, feeling lonely & scared

I'm in hospital and have been for over a week now, my heart isn't working the way it should and I've finally been diagnosed with a rare heart condition and autonomic disease which is a relief to be diagnosed but so overwhelming too, I'm having treatment but it's aggressive so the side effects are making me feel so crappy and I'm now waiting to be transferred to a specialist hospital In London.

I'm feeling so lonely though, my friends visit when they can but they have work and commitments too, I broke down and just cried yesterday the reality of it all and the seriousness, the nurses are so nice here and supportive, they've become just like a family but it's still so hard at times and the days are so long, I just feel scared and overwhelmed with everything.

What would you usually do on a chilled afternoon at home?

Read a book? Puzzles? Chill and watch TV?

If you can bring any normality into the hospital you might find it makes a big difference. Things to maybe think about are - iPod with your own music on, something you could watch films on (may or may not be possible), getting into some books, getting hold of some earplugs so you can concentrate on a book, drawing (if it's something you enjoy), learn to knit/crotchet, become a Sudoku whizz.

    Hi starwonder

I can't really say much because scary monster has already said it like reading a book or listening to music etc. I know it's not the same as being at home and it's horrible when your friends and family are not there, I know how it feels but you will find a way to fulfil the loneliness while you are there.

I hope you are ok though and that you are getting the treatment to help make you feel better. I hope you get better soon *hug*
