For those of you that don't know, it's Self Harm Awareness Day on the 1st March and YouthNet (the charity behind TheSite.org) are involved in various activities to help raise awareness.

Check out our blog with an entry every day this week highlighting different issues.

We also have an expert chat this Thursday before support chat, from 7-8pm. Rachel from selfharm.co.uk will be joining us to answer your questions and offer advice and support.

A bit about Rachel...

After experiencing many years of self-harm and eating disorders through her teens into her twenties, involving both in and out-patient treatment, Rachel always hoped that one day she may be able to use her experiences for the good of others. Rachel is now the director of selfharm.co.uk. Rachel regularly speaks at events across the UK and she is married with 2 young children. She's also taking part in our expert Q & A on the boards this Sunday as part of the Radio 1 surgery (more info on that coming soon!)

What can I ask Rachel?

If you'd like to ask a question then do come along to the chat. Maybe you're looking for advice about scars or about how to confide in someone, or maybe you're looking for some new distraction techniques. Whatever your question, everyone is welcome and Rachel will be here to offer her expert advice. We'll also encourage you to share any coping tips and distractions with the group.

The chat will be fully moderated so all comments will go through to a queue before they appear in the chat room, this is so that everyone gets a chance to have their question answered in turn. JPick and **Helen** will be there too to help out :thumb:

Once chat is open on the night you will be able to log in from this page: http://www.thesite.org/community/thesocial/chat

N.B This chat is not a place to get crisis support. If you're feeling the urge to harm, you could:
  • Phone a friend or someone you trust
  • Arrange a visit to see an out of hours GP
  • Contact TESS - email and text service for self harm support open 7-9pm, Monday - Friday (for girls and young women)
