Hear ye hear ye! A festive proclamation abounds! It's the Christmas films thread! and it's a competition too.

Post herein your favourite film to watch at Christmas. It doesn't have to be a traditional pick, it doesn't have to be about Christmas. To win the prize you have to make your case.

Tell us about the film.
Tell us why you watch it.
Tell us why we should.

Winner will be picked by me and Helen, and she'll be along to introduce the prize!

Elf :) I am obsessed with this film!

It's about this 'elf' (buddy) who discovers he's actually human and his real dad lives in NYC. He goes to find his dad, and spreads the Christmas cheer all around while he's at it.

I watch it because I love it, it's so funny and heart warming.

You should watch it just because if you haven't, you're missing out. I told fostress to watch it and tell me about it in the next chat she's modding.

No, you should watch it because it's just such a lovely film. Buddy doesn't fit in at all when he arrives in NYC, and his father doesn't really want to know. But as the film goes on everyone stops judging buddy for what he looks like or how he acts, and start to love him for the man he is, for his caring and lovely personality. The film completely shows what Christmas is all about. Family. In the end buddy has another family who love him, and he falls in love with a woman and starts his own family. What's lovely is that he doesn't just forget the man that brought him up, he still sees Santa and the elves as his family too.

Also, lots of Christmas fun in the film. It's so good. Guaranteed to make you smile.

    'Miracle on 34th street'

What excitement and belief a Christmas movie brings, showing the ups and downs of reality and fantasy. A young girl whose mother a very long time ago told her the truth about Christmas unlike other Children, she wasn't given the decision to decide what she wanted to believe, until Cole hired a Santa, who looked like the REAL DEAL!! He knew a vast majority of languages, engaged with people who were deaf, which made this little girl question the whether he was real or not.

PLOT TWIST - Santa get's put in prison, so is Santa the real deal now? You need to watch it to find it. It's filled with such emotions, it leaves you feeling high, then questioning yourself. The little girl wants a family for Christmas, does she get it? ;) It allows you to see the story from a disbelievers point of view, you don't get many movies where the Child doesn't believe in Santa, so this is completely the opposite. She is also really intelligent for her age. Audience wise, it will appeal to everyone and anyone.

I watched it because me and a group of friends were doing a Christmas meet up, where we decided to eat a lot of ice cream, and watch movies, and out of the three we watched I loved this one, I did again watch it a few days later, because I did love it that much, and then it was on telly, so watched it then to. The little girl is also in Matilda, which again is an amazing movie. But I didn't have a choice watching it, and I'm glad I didn't, but I loved it in the end ;) Watch the trailer to!

I think you should watch this movie because it shows Christmas at a completely different light, engages in general Christmas activities, and what things can happen around Christmas, including the negative side of things to. But to be fair, if you have the chance to watch it, watch it, you can find the full movie on Putlocker for free to! You're enriched with the Christmas atmosphere throughout the film!

    It's gotta be Home Alone.

Home Alone is about this kid called Kevin McAllistar whose entire family goes away for Christmas and due to a mix up with a head count and an incident with spilt milk, Kevin gets left behind in his parents home to fend for himself whilst the Wet Bandits - a rag tag pair of robbers - try to break in to his supposedly empty home to nick everything.

I watch this film every year because it is genuinely funny, it's slapstick and smart, with Kevin being a wisecracking ten year old out foxing the two dopes trying to break into his house, and the slapstick and set up scenes are so well done. It's also got that magical Christmas music that feels at once homely and nostalgic whilst also feeling haunting and desolate. The music captures the essence of Christmas.

You should watch this film because you will laugh, be swept away by the Christmas atmosphere of the film, believe in the heart of the story and demand to see the Wet Bandits brought to justice!

I'll be home for christmas :)

It's about Jake, who's at collage but doesn't want to go see his family at Christmas so gets some tickets to go on holiday with a girl (who says no because she wants to see her family). However his dad tells him that if he can get home in time for dinner on Christmas eve, then he can have a car. His rival Eddie ends up putting him in the middle of the desert in a santa suit with no way of getting home, so he needs to find a way to get back home in time to get the car and his girlfriend.

I watch it every year because I love this movie, it's amazing and i like it because it's not like all the other 'traditional' christmas films (which are usually based on love, santa or both and are extremely predictable) it's also quite funny :D

Why you should watch it? Basically, for all the reasons above :P it's a great movie and even if you like the traditional movies, i think you'll love it

Best Christmas film is the muppets Christmas carol. Without a doubt.

Followed by Its a Wonderful Life.

Both ends of the spectrum but both musts at Christmas.

Come on now, there is only one great Christmas film and that film is Scrooged.

REASONS WHY THIS FILM IS THE BEST:

    1. Bill Murray is allowed to be Bill Murray and has so many amazing throwaway lines.
    2. The love interest is Karen Allen. And it's Karen Allen at her most adorable. I'll say it again, the love story is between Bill Murray and Karen Allen. My heart!
    3. Bill Murray is putting on a telling of A Christmas Carol in a film based on A Christmas Carol. That's fucking meta.
    4. Did I mention Karen Allen?
    5. This scene
