The Best of 2013

Hey everyone

As 2014 is fast approaching, I thought it would be a really nice idea to share memories and achievements that have made you happy this year.

So, I'll start.

- Hearing my two year old cousin say my name for the first time. I love her so much, she never fails to make me smile.

-All the trips out and dinner dates with friends. Love friend times.

-Volunteering. I haven't done as much as I'd have liked to this year, but what I did do was a lot of fun. I met new people, and even when it rained so much waterproofs didn't help, cake and an unlimited supply of coffee and hot chocolate made it all better :d

-My little cousin got married this year. The whole day was amazing. Two of my closest friends also got married this year. Was great to be a part of their special day.

-Meeting up with a few TS members.

-Going for walks. I love being outdoors.

-Going to my exercise class alone. I used to go with a friend but she can't make it anymore. This was a big deal for me as I'm quite shy.

-Going for coffee alone. Another big thing for me. I take a book or read a paper and do actually enjoy that time alone.

It can be hard to remember all the positives, so I'm thinking of starting a New Year Jar in 2014.

Look forward to reading all your good memories from this year.

    Hey.

    Really good thread dude.

2013 has been a year full of lots of adventures for me.

My nephew, he is amazing and he has grown so much, this year he started to walk and babble and he has the most cutest smile.

Volunteering has seen me gain confidence (Going to London, getting on a tube on my own, and face my fear with public speaking) and meet some amazing people, who I still talk to now and have developed friendships.

Also having lots of friend times, seeing bre lots and I have fully enjoyed all our meet ups.

" So I say thank you for the music, the songs I'm singing, thanks for all the joy they're bringing, who can live without it, I ask in all honestly what would life be? Without a song or a dance, what are we? So I say thank you for the music, for giving it to me "

My gorgeous nephew was born, and it seems so weird that life ever existed without him

Getting to know a few people who I care so much about, and who make me laugh  can't wait for drunken rambles to start off my year!

Knowing the people I look up to and realising what I want to do in the future

I think this with my little cousin. They have such a big impact in our lives.

Yay BananaMonkey. We have had lots of good days out.

    Meeting loads of new friends.

Seeing a friend I hadn't seen for 2 years. Would be nice to see him more often (we do talk a lot on FB) but there's the issue of distance. :(

Gigs! Only went to 4 this year. But they were really good. :)

I finished my bachelor's degree in chemistry. I talked to a girl. Also I got a raise in my job. Guess that's about it.

I wanted to add to my list about my other volunteering, working with some amazing young people who inspire me every other Saturday when I see them at bowling, they never let having a disability hold them back and I see them progress and it is something I am really passionate about and something that I love doing.

Also about my job, 2013 saw me really gain the confidence to speak out, and express my ideas and it has shown me that I really do belong at the nursery even though the tough times.

I guess applying to start a counselling concepts course was big for me, seeing as I HATE college's and HATE socialising. Specially as I won't know anyone at all. (Hopefully hear back soon!)

All my volunteering with TS, and being able to build on who I am, maybe.

Getting my two beautiful kittens that keep me company.

Also, volunteering and fundraising for PAPYRUS, is one of the most life changing things I've ever done.

    That's about all!:)

Amazing thread baa ram ewe - being able to identify small (and some big), but significant things is a real skill, it's also massively beneficial for the people reading.

For me finally being able to recruit my full team at TheSite has been excellent - first it was just Jo and I - now we also have Jpick, Danny! and Alexandra. Hopefully this means we can get a lot more done alongside you guys in 2014.

    this thread.

    Some things for me:

-Completing my third year of university and started my fourth
-Sailing across the North Sea and getting some more sailing qualifications
-Passing my driving test and the freedom and new opportunities that came with that
-Having an awesome summer job outdoors in the sun (how good was this summer in terms of weather!?!?)
-Finally getting over 2012's break up :P
-Having a  moment which involved losing my £250 car key and all my clothes in the sea

A fantastic idea for a thread, I've never been a reflective person, however, I did do that collage that really made me think about how 2013 had went.

    - My adorable baby sister, even though she was born on an early morning off November 2012, she started learning behaviours and to love us throughout the whole of 2013. She turned one. Due to the freezing weather, we never made as big a deal, in comparison to other first Birthdays, we decided on spending it as a homey one, we might just have to do her first in Summer sometime this upcoming year. I don't know how, but she's changed me. I never knew having a baby sister could bring up so much enlightenment and joy, and she's managed to brighten up days when I've been in one of my 'moods.'

    - I've put in many volunteering hours, I however think I could of done more, which hopefully I will pursue in 2014, and get more involved in the current charities I volunteer with, for example, Mencap, and Age UK, might even consider working behind one of there stalls for a few weekends. (Theres so much I want to do, but such a short amount of time).

    - My amazing friends, who have been nothing but supportive through out my many breakdowns in college, and vice versa, were just that group of people. As well as the amazing new friends I've made, and even though I've had pretty shitteh relationships with people I've been with, while is lasted it felt good XD - In a caring way!

    - The amazing support I had received on here, through the whole year, even though my aggressive breakdowns, people still manage to take a fudge.

    - 2013 was also the year I met two Ellie's from the online world, both members on here to, and it was amazing just actually knowing you have a real person there :P - Sound strange, I guessed ;) - As well as meeting other online friends, which has been really epic! It's also been a great year to catch up with everyone in college, and our friends group is huge!

    - It's also the year I started winning in card games, for example Bullshit and Rummy...That sounds like a little thing, but it's huge to me!

    - I've also taken on many outs of volunteering, and at 18, I should get my adult leadership qualification, perfect Birthday present me thinks! But it's been amazing volunteering with GirlGuiding and being apart of a person live watching them gain self esteem, confidence, and being amazing at marketing!

    - I became a mentor for BeatBullying, have I mentioned that? They were one of 6 Text Santa charities, and I had done an article for The Sun Weekend magazine for them, sharing my experiences around bullying, and I'm glad I did that (As nerve wrecking as it was).

    - I was discharged from CAMHS, yay! Not sure if that's a good thing for a bad thing, but I've been with them forever! (Well, that's what it feels like). As well as successfully completing the DBT group, with bumps of course.

    - I went on a train twice, throughout the whole year, might not think of it as a big deal with, it's a massive deal to me! I never go on trains! :p

    - Being able to watch my baby sister take her first few stays, was amazing, even though she fell over a lot, but now she's walking just like us ;)

    - Also made some amazing friends throughout the year, at volunteering, and on here, and in college without doubt.

To be fair, I guess the year hasn't been that dreadful, but I can without doubt think of many negatives to go along side them XD

Edit : And of course my volunteering with TS, hopefully I'll be able to go to one of those Leader things one day!

    Did I mention I'm engaged?

I started my job late in 2012 but I've grown in confidence in it in 2013 and started the last stage of my ordination training.

    I learned to crochet.

2013 was pretty up and down for me in terms of health, but I like to think that I've progressed and it's been mainly ups.

    - I have applied for and been offered a place (and another interview) for a post graduate degree

    - Through university I have been offered employment

    - I have ambition again

    - I've pushed myself and stepped out of my comfort zone and presented at national conferences

    - I've met some wonderful people, both through here and through "real life"

    - Despite everything, I am still standing and can honestly say that I am proud of myself for (in general) coping and being stable.

I graduated, that was pretty immense :thumb:

we moved to a nice new house and had a happy family Christmas in it.

I had a great holiday with my fiancé in May.

I also got a place on, and started, a masters course at the best place for studying mental health in Europe. and I coped for a whole term living away from home for the first time. I suppose that's pretty good too :p

You have no idea how much I love reading posts like this from you. I feel ever so proud of you, I always smile. You've had such a journey

For me, not many highlights in what has basically been a shitey year but the 2 that stand out are getting my perm position and job security. It's a long time since I have been this happy and safe in a job. I have renewed my love of teaching.

And secondly, the most magical Christmas in Lapland with hubby and daughter. My heart melted when she met Father Christmas on Christmas Day and very little will beat riding (and leading) a pack of huskies through a snow covered forest with a tinge of the northern lights in the night sky. Out of this world.
