Bday gifts for a NEW boyfriend???

I've been seeing my boyfriend for just over a month now (mostly in a dating context) and it's his birthday next week - I am really looking for suggestions on what I can get for him.
The reasons why I'm struggling to think of something:
- We've only gone as far as making out so anything too sexual would be inappropriate.
- He's a shy/timid guy so any over the top romantic gifts might intimidate him.
- He hates restaurants so taking him for a meal isn't an option.
- Everything he wants he just goes out and buys it for himself/already owns
I thought about making him a birthday cake but it doesn't seem enough...

Also, you can't take him out for a meal because he doesn't like restaurants but maybe you could get a take away and have a cosy night in watching a film or something?
