Confused about how to approach my GP

Hey
I have been struggling lately. Feeling down and isolated. Haven't been to my GP for ages and wanting to go see them at the practise. I want to ask what they can do to help with my mental health. I am on 20mg of citalopram already. I'm worried they'll just tell me to go away and take it. I don't know how to cope and I have been through complaints because I was refused help from CMHT and they said they could not see me for just anxiety because of cuts etc. I'm not under a psychiatrist either and I have Asperger's syndrome. Anyone know how I can go about being straight with my GP and asking for help before they tell me I'm and ask me to leave. I've changed GPS loads to because I try to find one that will listen. Does having Aspergers limit help I can get from mh because they don't see it like I do?

Thank you.

I've recommended this before, but I would suggest using this website called Doc Ready. It can really help you work through your issues, then you can take it with you to your appointment.

    What do you think?

Thank you Fiend_85 I've found this helpful. It's given me things to tick of and so I can say everything I want to. I have yet to make the appointment but I will be sure to print it out and take it with me. I hope they listen to me. Thanks again :)

    .

you can't usually get support from the NHS for issues specifically related to Aspergers because it isn't a mental health problem, it's a developmental disorder and you can't change a lot of the core traits. but if you are experiencing mental health issues then you are entitled to treatment just like everyone else, and if you believe that the problems you are having are unrelated to your AS, or that your AS may be related but not the single cause, then you'll need to make that clear to the doctor as they may well dismiss them as being down to AS. as you've found, it is really difficult to access specialist MH services because of the high demand and reduced funding, but your GP should be supporting you so don't let them fob you off.
