Soooo... what did you think?

Was nominated by Clementine_the_Tangerine for crime/thriller month.

Let's talk about impressions and favourite bits first, then I'll think about some questions.

I really enjoyed it; crisp writing style, the clues were there for a really involved reader to see, but not so in your face that you would get ahead of the narrative (unless you're seriously determined!).

But I didn't get the ending. :eek2:

The epilogue. It went back to 'normal'.

I can't remember the epilogue. Now that Mavis is dead I'm not gonna have a chance to read that far :(

really, really wish I had read the book before watching the film. Would have appreciated the twists so much more.

Picc can you remind me of the epilogue?? Are there spoiler tags on here?

I read the book before seeing the film and was really disappointed by the film. I might rewatch it just to see if it's any better now that I've "forgotten" some of the details of the book.

i really enjoyed shutter island... the twist at the end made me think of the born movies.... wonder why?

really awsome story- unlike other things i've read and put down (because of bordom and a very bland story) this was great. from start to finish

i also saw the movie twice, again well put together

The epilogue is the two 'officers' leaving the island. It left me befuddled.

I don't put spoiler tags in but expect people to have read the book before coming in, or to be spoiled :p

Ah yeah. Maybe I should look over it again but I read the ending as being deliberately ambiguous. I do find stories like this personally terrifying and disorientating; when you're made to question your own sanity. (orry to mention films) but in the same kinda strain as Gothika and Flightplan. Can you think of any other books that are comparable? I really love thrillers and those with twists!

I am struggling to think of books.

Millions of films (you neglected Fight Club - how could you?!)

Maybe I just read the wrong genres to be familiar with them. I remember Woman in White by Wilkie Collins resonated with me when I was reading Shutter Island. I think it's the "What is madness?" aspect of the story.

If you've not read Woman in White, it's well worth it.
