Which Political Figure Grinds your Gears?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
It's Ed Balls for me at the moment. He embodies everything I hate about politics: he's fiercely tribal; has more gall when it comes to revisionist political history than I though was possible; and is a smug prick. I had to turn Radio 4 off yesterday when he came on. He makes me as angry as Jeremy Vine once did.

Who grinds your political gears and why?

I'm not going to say any Conservative MP because calling them all cunts is like shooting fish in a barrel.

For me its definitely Harriet Harman. Again it's the revisionism, the way nothing is ever her fault, the way she attacks the Tory Scum for being illiberal after bringing in that utterly stupid "extreme porn" law. She's an asshat.

Rather obvious one but Nick Clegg. I just look at him now apologising thinking "Just shut up please. Go away." I can't really gather the energy to listen to him anymore, complete dissapointment. This is rather obvious from a student but yeah.
I really like the previous foreign minister guy Jack Straw-hasn't been involved in any big scandals as far as I know and seems to be serious about politics. It's not about image.

Same as arctic really, but I'm pissed off with my local MP Martin horwood purely because he's not done enough to sort out local NHS specialist services, including mental health, and he turned down the offer of being made patron of a local fibromyalgia charity that I support.

David Cameron because he's all image and no substance - really what *does* he actually stand for? La-La for what he did to NHS in spite of all available evidence, Balls and Milliband for conveniently forgetting their role in the Treasury and backstabbing Blair for years, Clegg for his complete lack of principles when someone dangles the idea of power in front of his eyes, Hunt for selling out to Sky so blatantly, Vaz for judging everyone else yet seeming to be as corrupt as they come, anyone of them that claimed over the top for expenses making a big public announcement of paying it back and the reclaiming again once the public's eye moved to another story... seriously I could go on for hours...

When I use the words "that ginger" I don't mean anything offensive towards redheads, just that I cant remember the guys name; but that Ginger libdem bloke who works in the treasury, seems a bit of a complete wet fish.

Not sure if he counts and it's over the pond but... Bill O'Reilly.

Whenever I want to revel in my pissed off state I just search for clips on youtube. Boring, right wing bully.

I've found most of the ones I've met and worked with pretty good (with a few exceptions, which I won't name). I think there's a lot of criticism, some fair and some not, of politicos, but its bloody hard work and the pay's pretty awful for the reality of it - especially if you become a Minister - and whatever you do is subject to ill-informed criticism and innuendo and with everyone thinking they could do a better job (which in 99% of cases they couldn't).

For me, it's just about every MLA that currently sits their smug arses in Stormont. The joke is that half of them are terrorists.

I don't gel with the ideology of any main party (ok... the left faction of the Greens seem a little less wanky). That said, I'm a socialist, not a social democrat or capitalist... I don't believe that maintaining a class system is democratic and starves the state of potential talent.... but then my involvement with the rainbow of socialists in the trade union movement makes me realise that egos, sell outs and careerists are everywhere...

Current political people who annoy me:
    George Galloway
The beaurocrats of undemocratic witch-hunting trade unions
The leaders of all the main parties (ok... Caroline Lucas seems ok)
    Fascists

Edit: sorry if this looks weird, I'm using a phone app
