How do I get back a lost appetite?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I'm still feeling ick, its been going on for months now, but the doctors can't seem to find why (apparently they haven't tested for glandular fever, so thats the last test before they refer me on to a specialist *hopefully!!*). I've got very little appetite, I'm managing a couple of little snacks (handful of dried fruit normally) a day, and I feel sick every time I eat. Its been nearly 2 weeks that I haven't been able to eat, and I haven't really got much of an interest in food anyway. I'm doing my best to keep hydrated, but i'm finding it hard to drink juice and water without feeling nauseous.

I've already tried my favorite foods, has anyone else any ideas what I can do to try and get my appetite back? My GP said to go back next week if I wasn't eating still, but he said that last week too! :(

I walked around town all day yesterday, and cleaned all morning today. Its difficult because I'm so tired. But even when I do feel a bit hungry, i still feel sick when I eat.

    Hi Miss Riot:wave:,

I am sorry to here that you are still not feeling well.

Have you tried making up some soup with lots of meat and vegetables in ??, this could be a good way of getting some good nutritious food into you and is also very warming and comforting as the weather is getting colder. You also say you are managing to eat little snacks, this is also good to do as often as you can.

Please keep on posting on here and let us know how you are getting on.

I hope you start to feel better soon.:thumb:

I did a little pasta soup thing tonight but it was a real struggle to eat all of it - and i only gave myself a small bowl. I'm getting cravings back, but i find myself stopping from eating it because everytime i do I feel sick. I'm starting to wonder if this is stress and anxiety rather than actually anything physical...

    is that likely?

    Hi Miss Riot,

Your loss of appetite could be related to feeling stressed and anxious, it is good that you are trying to eat little bits and pieces. Try to do this as often as possible and keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water and fruit juices.

Keep posting and let us know how you are getting on.

Nope, definatly not, I've had a coil fitted and I had a scan to check it was in place last week so they would have picked something there.
