Going to the doctors about Social Anxiety?

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Today, my mum has made an appointment for me to go to the doctor about my social anxiety. Although I know it's probably the right thing to do, as living with fear of social situations is just ridiculous. I just wanted to know, will going to the doctors actually work? what can they actually do to make it any better? I'm worried that they'll think I'm stupid.

Good luck. They wont think youre stupid, but they might refer you for some counselling, or offer you medication to try and get it under control.
Having an anxiety disorder is really horrible, but a lot of the medications you can get are very effective, and dont always have to be a long term thing.

I was on fluanxol for about a year (maybe more) and it really really helped, and i still take it occasionally now on an "as and when" basis to calm me down.
    Beta blockers can also help
