URGENT!!! Self Harm Scars (How to get rid of them QUICKLY)

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I self harmed for only three days on May 15th - 18th and although I was blessed enough to find this site straight away and fight the urge to keep cutting, I have many prominent scars on my legs and arms. I have not told anyone that I self harmed and cannot bring myself to as it is over now and will worry everyone so much! I am going on holiday with my family in six weeks and I HAVE to remove or fade my scars before that as the whole holiday will be swimming and sunbathing in my swimming costume and my thighs have lots of scars. I have dismissed the ones on my arms as being from thorns but have had many worried remarks about them. However, no one has seen my thigh and I have a heart cut into it which is obvious. The scars are flat but very pink in colour.

PLEASE HELP, I AM BEGGING YOU!
Thanks so so so much!!!!

    Hello...
Bio Oil is good for scars, and also palmers cocoa butter formula- it has vitamin E in it... I also find that exfoliating your skin, it makes the scars fade but its quite painful as its just scrubbing your skin... fake tan aswell...

Hope this helps a little.. I know how your feeling i hate trying to hide scars on my wrists.

Claire's suggestions are good but nothing will make your scars fade to invisible in that time. You might need to be prepared for that and have a conversation with your parents.

    Thanksst

Thank you both. How should I approach telling my mum? The prospect terrifies me
as they will see this as a huge deal and probably go as far as therapy, as much as I will tell them that I am fine now. It would also upset them so much and make them feel awful if they find out that they are the reason I self harmed, especially as
our relationship is now back on track. PLEASE give me some tips, I can't see myself saying anything in the near future but I have to! :(

Maybe you could write them a letter?

I think therapy might be good for you, even if you've stopped self-harming the feelings are probably still there. You need to find new ways of coping before things go wrong again.

I've never raised the subject with my parents so I can't give any real tips I'm afraid. There's a factsheet here on confiding in someone.

 definitely worth having a look at this EnchantedGirl, and also at our factsheet about scars and treatments

It is a really good idea to speak to someone as piccolo suggested. Speaking to someone in your family would be a great idea, but if you dont feel ready to do that yet then perhaps think about someone else who you trust such as a close friend, teacher or your doctor. Therapy or counselling is not a bad thing, as it can help you to understand your feelings and help you to manage these.

Let us know how you get on, LauraO

Bleepy has also started a similar thread here about how to cover scars up, which maybe useful to have a peak at too :)

    Thank you.

Just thought it would be nice to let you know that in June I wrote my parents a letter explaining everything. We talked through and sorted out so much. Everything is under control and I know longer self harm. The scars are fading and so are my urges to self harm. Thanks for everything.

Wow. You guys are so kind! Hate reliving the past so I hadn't read the most recent replies. I am so happy now, have confided in my best friends as well about my past problem and moved on. I even help my friend who is depressed and self harms. I felt that you deserved that update. This website saved my life. YOU saved my life. I now work hard and party hard, achieving A*s and socialising in equal measure. From the bottom of my heart I hope you are all as lucky as me. Please contact me for any help as I have pushed through this too, and maybe some of you are overcoming a self harming problem or dealing with scars now. Much love xxx

I have some really deep scars on my upper right arm

Like, so deep that if people knew about them, I would have had to have stitches, and one of them was so bad it bled for weeks and weeks after it was inflicted, becuase the wound just wouldn't close up on it's own.

And after it healed, I was left with a disgusting, long pink scar across my arm, and I tried to put foundation on it, and it still showed through.

Then i started searching net for some home remedy of home scar treatment and come across a website where is found Bio-oil name.

Then I tried Bio-oil, and I use it every night, and the scar has faded dramatically now. It's still there, obviously, but it is so much less visable now, and I've only been using the Bio-oil for about 4weeks.

You can get it at any store that sells skincare products, and it is most likley to be found in Superdrug and Boots. You are supposed to rub it in to the affected area at least twice a day, and let it sink in. It can also be used for dry skin or stretchmarks anywhere on the body, including the face.

    Hope This helps.
