In the old days everyone in London used an A to Z to go about, or a provincial town map, or ask a friend if not strangers you find in the street
Has all this been made redundant by accurate street finders on internet map sites
Who still leaves the house in London on a trip carrying a traditional paperback A to Z?

The thing that gets closest to making my A-Z redundant are the awesome map posts that are scattered all over central london now.
My residence in London spans 19 years and still need A to Z too. Sometimes take a one page print out from internet Streetmap though

No, not a pocket tube map - an A-Z.
Pocket tube maps are absolutely no use for working out which tube station you want to go to, just how to get there.
An antiquated pre-computer necessity
AR: In latest version of Google Maps you can even take maps offline now.
I'll have to look at that, but I do only have a basic smartphone.
I don't leave the house without a map when going somewhere in the car, because I find there are plenty of places up in the wolds/downs/valleys/forest/levels/plains etc that don't show up on sat nav or sometimes even google maps.
Next time won't forget the print out.

Of course, there is A to Z for Birmingham, for Leicester, for Bath etc. WH Smith stores in London used to sell loads
