Progesterone only pill, spotting and pain...

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
started these just over 2 1/2 weeks ago, coming to the end of towards the end of the packet but I've got another week or so to go, and I'm spotting - almost like a light period, and I keep getting period pains.

The spotting I know is normal, but I'm pretty sure the pain isn't. Its not severe, it comes in little pangs, like I've just been kicked by a small child.

Worth going back to the dr about or is this normal?

    Miss_Riot,

I am sure you know that there are side effects that can occur when using a progesterone only pill, especially when you first start and you're body is getting used to it. These are all good places to have a read about the progesterone only pill:

    http://www.thesite.org/sexandrelationships/safersex/contraception/progestogenonlypill
    http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Progestogen-only-pill/Pages/Sideeffects.aspx
    http://www.fpa.org.uk/helpandadvice/contraception/progestogenonlypillpop

When taking a pill like this everyone is very different and some people find they don't have any side effects, and others experience spotting etc. as you have. It does sound like these pains are causing you discomfort though, so a trip back to the doctors sounds like a good idea to put your mind at rest, or to discuss other POPs or different contraceptive options if this isn't really suiting you.

Hope you are feeling bit better soon *hug*

A little OT, but it may help you to know that I recently had my Mirena removed because it nearly killed off my sex life for good, and on researching a little, it's not unheard of as a side effect.

Just find it interesting that it's recommended as a cure for sexual ails!

Its because my (whatever he is now) was circumsized and I sometimes have a reaction to lubes or condoms, and I'm a bit overweight and get depressed so the pill is a no-no...

My sex drive isn't the problem, its pain and flashbacks during sex.
