gluten intolerance/coeliac disease

anyone here got either?

in the latest 'what the hell is wrong with me?' consultation, my specialist guy advised me to cut varying things out of my diet to see if something i'm eating is bringing on my symptoms.

for the last couple of days i have been cutting out wheat and gluten, and i don't know if it's just psychosomatic, but the difference, even after only 2 days, is incredible. i have had no pain, at all, since part-way through yesterday. no bloating, i slept through the night without waking up once. i don't feel sick, i don't feel headachey. i feel really, really good.

is anyone on a gluten-free diet, and how long did it take for you to notice a difference when you stopped eating it?

Kaffrin, I've just realised what you're doing. When they suspected my OH had coeliac he was told under no circumstances to put himself on a gluten free diet because diagnosis is by endoscopy and biopsy. If he had been on a gluten free diet for a few months beforehand it would have reversed the changes in the lining of his gut that they look for to make a diagnosis. I`d take this up with your GP if I were you. :(

my GP says it's all down to stress, and that all i need is a spot of counselling :chin:

i was advised by the consultant to try this - considering my issues with endoscopy, he doesn't think there's any point putting me through it unless there is reason to believe it will prove anything.

he told me to cut out gluten for a week or two, and then lactose for a week or two, cause they were his two supects, and then to report back to him to see if cutting out either made me feel better.

Oh God, doctors....gotta love em eh? We have had it the other way round, our GP is brilliant but the consultants keep telling us there`s nothing wrong with him. Riiiiight. This is a man who used to work a 16 hour shift, drive 125 miles to get me, 125 miles home and still get up for another 16 hour shift at 6 am next day. Now he`s so knackered from getting up and walking downstairs he`d go straight back to bed (if only he had the energy to get there). And I suppose constant diarrhoea and vomiting is normal.

I didn`t realise it was only going to be for a week or two. Just wanted to warn you.

Get sedated if you need an endoscopy. You won`t know a thing about it so OH and MIL tell me.

    Lactose Intolerance

I read this thread with interest. You may be interested to see this video that explains the difference between lactose intolerance and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Hope it helps!

This is a really old thread. If you want to talk about digestive disorders, you could start your own thread.
