Prince Charles' income from taxpayers increases by £298,000

Story from the Guardian

Can anyone justify this whilst spending cuts are leading to key health services closing and patients being denied 'expensive' medicine; grants to train teachers are being cut aggressively or abolished; etc.?

Whilst individual amounts can seem excessive, at least some amount in the wider scheme of things needs to be spent on international relations. It really does, as when other countries shut up shop in our faces, that is going to hurt us bad.

Though in this case I don't think he should be getting so much money especially when he has £17m a year income from private sources. Though on the flip side of the coin, if the government keeps asking him to go places, should he just say no if the govt refuses to pay?

A small increase in line with inflation could be justified by your argument, but 18% is obscene

Same ol', same ol': a myriad of serfs and peons with buckling knees creaking under a few grossly obese monarchs - either literally in this case, or metaphorical in the case of bankers, union leaders, politicians, et al.

We are all in this together.

As the multi-millionaires Cameron and Osbourne keep reminding us.

To keep the debate balanced and avoid the hysterical, it's worth sharing all of the facts (whether you agree with the increase or not) :

"The Prince of Wales received an extra £298,000 in taxpayer funding last year but paid an extra £914,000 in tax."

I suspected there may be more to this than the Grauniad reported. Thanks.

I would say, however, that everyone else is paying increased tax without the additional 18% on their income.

That would be tax paid on the income from the Duchy of Cornwall which he was given, just like the 18% increase on money from the Govt. Just to keep the balance ;)

It's funny, really, isn't it. People get so upset about Prince Charles' taxpayer income going up by £290,000- mostly because the Government send him off to foreign climes to wine and dine people- and nobody gives a fiddle about the billions and billions of pounds HMRC are letting companies off in cosy bankroom deals.

Not that I'm sure why the Grauniad are so upset. Due to myriad offshore trust funds and tax avoidance strategies, they haven't paid a single penny in tax for years.

The cost to taxpayers of funding the Queen's spending has dropped by £1.8m, Buckingham Palace says.

Looks like mummy more than evened it out ;)

Surprisingly enough, the royal family is quite in the business of wind farming. If only they could harness all the hot air that comes from Prince Charles..
