Do not try to reason with the momentum of American patriotism.

He had to be stopped just like Saddam Hussein because there's no telling what he would have done next.

You were doing so well and then you went and said that. Saddam Hussein was only taken out because he wouldn't behave whilst the Yanks stole all his oil. He didn't have WMD and he didn't have the means to manufacture them, so what would he have done?

However bin Laden's been behind several attacks, not just 9/11 but all the embassy bombings in the 90s too.

    He's not dead. Simple enough...
It's simply not believable, and why would you trust the media/government/USA? You really think all of a sudden they would have found him, killed him and berried him at sea?
It's a stunt, to make america look good.
Actually i don't know why, just that it's no way ever believable.

Not everything is a conspiracy, you know.

Incidentally, I would love it if they'd berried him rather than buried him. I'd have loved to have seen him being pelted with blueberries while trying desperately to escape on a blow-up dinghy...

I cannot believe that he is still alive. Otherwise al-Qaeda and Osama would have already posted a video on Al jazzera or whoever saying "you missed me I'm still alive fuckers!"

I can't say I am celebrating publicly over this, but I can say that I am Happy that he has been bought to justice..

    As Martin Luther King said:
"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars." Sums up my view on it nicely.

    I actually don't care that he's dead.

    I agree with this.

I think what people are trying to say, is that it is still a little tasteless to be celebrating a victory no matter how huge, when it has still been at the expense of someones life.

A monster's life. Sorry, when I kicked Ganondorf's ass in The Legend of Zelda and he dropped, I celebrated. I don't celebrate the death of political opponents, which I will agree is tasteless. But people who would think nothing of castrating you in public just because they can don't fall into the category of "human being".
Do not try to reason with the momentum of American patriotism.

Okay. And I'll also try not to reason with the tryhard moral superiority of Europeans sycophantism.

What has Zelda got to do with this?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    Read it again.

    Read it again.

I did, thought it made just as much sense with or without the zelda reference.

In reference to the momentum of american patriotism, I'm with you on it! No need to drag me into a stereotype with the rest of them europeans!
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
    That's why I said European sycophantism. It wasn't all-inclusive. :P

And the reference was to the first sentence. Gannondorf and Osama were both monsters. I cheered when Ganon died, I cheered when Osama died. Savvy?

Why care whether he's dead or alive? He is/was nothing more than a covert agent for High Finance & the CIA whose mythology was manufactured to provide justification for war in the middle east. Anyone who thinks he planned the 9/11 attacks from a cave in Afghanistan is really having their strings pulled

Saddam Hussein was a horrible person to his people. He lead by torturing and murdering his people. At least with Osama he did it to the ones he hated.

    Two things to notice:
1)He was unarmed but there was no question of arrest apparently, the only option was to be killed right there and then.
2)He used his wife as a human shield. Of course killing her too was worth it to get him.

Nice to know there was never a possibility to "find Bin Laden", only "kill Bin Laden at all costs and under any circumstances".

The whole approach to this, and response by the US government brings a little song I once heard to mind.....
To the tune of "If You're Happy And You Know It"
    All together now.......

If you cannot find Osama, bomb Iraq.
If the markets are a drama, bomb Iraq.
    If the terrorists are frisky,
    Pakistan is looking shifty,
    North Korea is too risky,
    Bomb Iraq.

If we have no allies with us, bomb Iraq.
If we think that someone's dissed us, bomb Iraq.
So to hell with the inspections,
Let's look tough for the elections,
Close your mind and take directions,
    Bomb Iraq.

    It's pre-emptive non-aggression, bomb Iraq.
To prevent this mass destruction, bomb Iraq.
They've got weapons we can't see,
And that's all the proof we need,
If they're not there, they must be,
    Bomb Iraq.

If you never were elected, bomb Iraq.
If your mood is quite dejected, bomb Iraq.
If you think Saddam's gone mad,
With the weapons that he had,
And he tried to kill your dad,
    Bomb Iraq.

If corporate fraud is growin', bomb Iraq.
If your ties to it are showin', bomb Iraq.
    If your politics are sleazy,
    And hiding that ain't easy,
    And your manhood's getting queasy,
    Bomb Iraq.

Fall in line and follow orders, bomb Iraq.
For our might knows not our borders, bomb Iraq.
    Disagree? We'll call it treason,
Let's make war not love this season,
Even if we have no reason,
    Bomb Iraq.

There has already been a trial regarding those atrocities in early 2001 which lasted 6 months. Bin Laden was tried in absentia along with other alleged suspects. The others on trial were found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.

The FBI and the then vice president Dick Cheney both went on record after the event to say there is no evidence linking Bin Laden to 9/11.

Lots of leaders are horrible to people in their country but they're still in power. In fact they're not just in power, they're sold the weapons by BAe to be extra horrible. Take Bahrain as an example; instead of getting rid of leaders who gun down protestors, we send ACPO's specialist officers over to "assist" them and we send BAe over to sell them the guns they're using to gun protestors down.

Indeed, Saddam Hussein only had WMD when we'd sold them to him and told him where to use them (on Iranians, mostly). The first Gulf War only happened because he started using them on people he shouldn't have been. And in terms of horribleness, most Iraqis would rather be living under Saddam than what they have now.

No need to get so defensive. Pointing out how vomit inducing some Americans can get when it comes to being patriotic does not mean I think either side is superior.

Great, he's dead. But as has already been said (many) times... Al-quaeda still exist, they will still carry out attacks. All they have lost is a name people all too readily associate with Al-quaeda.

There wasn't evidence to support that Bin Laden did carry out these attacks. If it was him, its more than likely because he is a terrorist and hates the western world.

Did he not claim responsibility? Still doesn't mean he carried it out, but if youre stupid enough to admit it, then you gotta expect what arrived on Sunday night.
