UN Finally Makes Decision

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Well, it's only taken several weeks and hundreds of deaths, but the UN has finally decided to defend innocents against their oppresive regime.

The decision permits "all necessary measures" to protect the Libyans

Next Bahrain.

That's positive, gives the UN a little more credibility although in general it appears pretty powerless. It's definitely very slow as well.

Well, nice to see Gaddafi has responded positively telling the residents of Benghazi "we are coming tonight" and "there will be no mercy" according to Reuters

If you've not heard, the Lybian soldiers are speculated to be using .50 BMG rounds on unarmed civilians. Obviously the bullet doesn't matter, as they're used to kill, but take into account their size and use...

So, the forces are now in action.

Meanwhile, Mugabe is jumping up and down waving his arms shouting "What about me?"

This isn't like Eygypt where civilians are protesting ...this is an armed revolt that Gadaffi legally squashed.
It was almost over and done with and then some fucker with submarines and jets and missiles caused a massive escalation of the killing!
Have a read of the realities of this shit instead of falling for the same old shit over and over.

...and on another thread on this very board we find ...

Bahrain's king as a royal wedding guest? What an dreadful message

Being 'royal' doesn't stop you being a violent dictator. Why are such people receiving invitations to Prince William's wedding?

But instead of NATO we send in the Saudis ...and these were civilians.
I can't get my head round why anyone believes this war shit any more!

The first casualty of war is truth .....

    Anyway...

Listening to Cameron today, it seems mission creep is already bing considered. I'm happy to support the use of NATO to protect civillians but there is no way that the UN mandate justifies arming one side of this civil war.

If your old enough to remember some of the political speeches and writings from the late nineties through early two thousands you'll have heard the Yanks talking about the new America century ...the sole superpower and it's objectives of war for a generation ...perpetual war ...full spectrum domination of the middle east and central Asia ...

If you're old enough, you might remember that before the 90s (and therefore those speeches), Libya had already fallen out with the USA...

It's OK. By arming the rebels, we're just evening the score, seeing as how we armed Gaddafi years ago.

Of course nobody's naive enough to think that we're going in with pure intentions. The French certainly aren't.

Oh, I know it will be used as the excuse. In part because the idiots think it will lead to a Govt of our choosing. Doesn't mean I have to support it - especially when the naivete belongs to those whom think it will have that result.

It seems the new rebel leader has been groomed by Washington for the past 20 years. When he gets on the throne, everyone should once again be blissfully happy because he will be in a position to do what needs to be done . . . . in the name of democracy, of course.

Gulf of Sidra confrontations took place in 1981. My point still stands.
