I've never been to a festival before (so many people who know me seem surprised when I say this  ) and in 2011, unless I get laid off, it will be the first year I will be able to afford to go!

I'm looking for:
  • Something family friendly
  • Somewhere I'll be able to go out and be safe, also, I'd rather not have people puke on my tent or my neighbours fucking/arguing all night
  • Somewhere I can get veggie food
  • Somewhere I can meet people of all ages and cultures
  • Music from around the world
  • Somewhere that feels quite independent and not too commercial

I am very much in to chilling out, environmental issues, all kinds of music, but I prefer to be sober and would rather not be in an environment where everyone is constantly hammered and staggering everywhere. I have been to many raves and squat parties and can tolerate that, but wanna air my head, so rowdy drunk people may make it more stressful...

Of course, I've never been to a festival. Maybe I am asking for too much, or have the wrong idea about what they're like...

I have been recommended Buddhafield, which is alcohol free and has meditation work shops (I follow Buddhism).

Of the more mainstream festivals, the Isle of Wight Festival is probably most as you describe.

    http://www.shambalafestival.org/ (Very family friendly)

http://www.headstockfestival.com/?cat_id=1&level=1 (new and fairly small, my dad does the second stage- which is mainly gypsy and world music. I don't know what bands are playing main stage yet, but they are trying to get the white stripes, and Rufus Wainwright)

http://www.greenman.net/ (In wales, and quite big, but it's good)

http://www.endorseit.co.uk/ (Used to work there with my dad a few years back, was very good then. The people that run it are lovely)

Oh, and veggie/vegan food is available in all these places. I am vegan, and my dad is a veggie :)

I was going to say that! Although you don't camp there. Was way better when it was free too, although still worth a visit for the small fee of £7ish.

Depends where you're from and where you're willing to go too...

    Guildfest is quite good.
    Beautiful Days is freaking awesome..
Volkesfest is small, but truely the most amazing festival i've been too :)

Rhythms of the World is only up in Hitchin, so not far especially if you are a north Londoner?

edit: just looked at your location... ok, you can catch the tube!
