Arthritis

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
My dad thinks I might have the kind that he has. I'm fuck scared. I don't really know what advice etc. I want from posting this but.. I just needed to get it out.
I spoke to my mum about it and she just said "For fuck sake, dont have arthritis, it'll ruin my life." so, she doesn't care.

But the thing is, my dad has to take 70 tablets a week, and has an injection once a week. He's not 5/10 years to live, and he's 42! I don't want that :crying: I don't know if I should go to the doctors, or just leave it. Part of me just doesn't want to know if I do have it, but I know if I do then it'll be better to know sooner rather than later. x

I think you're best off going to the doctor instead of worrying about what it might be. What is making you think you have it?

Even if you do indeed have arthritis, it may not be the same as your dad's. A couple of my friends have rheumatoid arthritis and they have a pretty normal life. They both have problems with their knees, but one can still ski so she has it well managed :)

My dad thinks I have it, because I have reeeaaaaallllyyyy bad pains in my muscles in my arms and shoulders (thats how his started) and he started getting it at 17. His mum and sister also have arthritis, but their's is more "normal". The doctors call my dad the mystery man, because they haven't really seen his type of arthritis before, they class it as rheumatoid, but it isn't really. x

 What type of arthritis is your dad thinking you have? I'm going to the specialist again in the year because my GP suspects I have RA.

It's always best in these situations to talk to your doctor - if only to put your mind at rest. Often similar symptoms do not necessarily point to the same health problems and only a doctor would be able to confirm this.

Well if you're in a lot of pain, then that is reason enough to go to see your GP.

I know, but, I guess I'm just scared. :( And my mum wont book me an appointment, and I don't even know what surgery my GP is at!

Yeah, don't worry that is understandable. Just when it comes to these things I think that not knowing is pretty much always worse, especially if this pain will constantly remind you of it. And also.. it often pays to catch things early if there is something wrong.

How many surgeries are there near you? Could you call up and ask them if you're registered there? You're on the Pill aren't you.... so does the prescription of that have the address of your surgery on it?

The pills from the clinic, not my GP.

And, I don't even know where the doctors are! I'll google it in a sec

 I don't want to scare you BA, (mine is sort of self-inflicted) but I had a lot of pain in my shoulders and neck. I am now due to have injections to relieve this.

eh? it's not as if you can choose whether you have it or not.
