Does anyone still get a power cut?

It was a big thing in the early 90s when I was a kid. It got better from the mid 90s though.

As of 2006, I live on the edge of Stafford, in a built-up area. We still lose power about 4 times per year mainly in the darker months. I was going to re-subscribe back into World of Warcraft tonight. Then you guessed it - lights out for most of this evening. That's put my game on the back burner for another night.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

last time was in Nottingham 2006/7

if it wasn't for a pack of weed, some rizzlas and a lighter it would have been the shittiest Saturday night ever.

you dont realise how much you need electricity, until it goes off.

We get them, usually the power goes off in winter at some point. Sometimes for a week or more. Don't really mind it though :)

we had one about two months back that affected a large area. We had no power for about an hour and a half, then 20 secs of power, then nothing for about 20 mins then they sorted it out for good (about midnight)! You just got your hopes up the first time and then it went again!

Very rare for me nowadays. I think I remember them being much more common 12-13 years ago but I might not remember it correctly.

    hahaha read. ;)

    its not that bad, surprisingly!
There was one time there was no power for 2 weeks and we couldn't get out the village because of the snow, plus my brother was only a few months old. Bad times.

A few weeks ago I was at the bar and an accident took out the power on the street. It was $2 pint night and the buttholes wouldn't substitute bottles for $2 since the taps went out :grump:

Where I used to live we'd get one about every other week, just that road though. V annoying as the neighbour's house alarm would go off.

It happens in Bangladesh everyday everytime powercut then we would have to wait with all moqitos biting us and the heat there is so bloody hot you need a fan but can't as the powers down thats why I love the UK Xx

Some interesting answers - thanks :-) Seems like I'm a little bit worse off where I am than on average, but Naun's week-long cut sounds pretty brutal. Sure, my heating is gas-based, but the boiler is still controlled by an electronic controller, therefore no electricity = no heating.

Spooky, my street just had one a few hours ago for not even a minute! Only had one once before a few years ago. Some cock thought I'd be a good idea to set fire to the local power box thing. I don't know what they're called.

There have been a few little ones overnight, I only know because the Sky+ box says it hasn't been able to record.

The last one we had was last year, late at night too, so when we did get power everyones alarms went off.
I was at someones house at the start of the year when they had a power cut.

i used to get them all the time when i was younger, but less frequently as ive gotten older, there was one caused by the edinburgh trams project bollocks a couple of year ago that took out the electricity for about 2 miles from where they buggered something straight along the main road, and everything around it

We had one in uni halls in my first year, then everyones power came back on except our flat! Then we had about 3 in the space of 10 minutes at work yesterday morning. Though I thin that was because it was so cold our generators outside were struggling. I can remember them happening every now and then in the 90's when I was a kid, but they usually seemed to happen overnight so no one would notice...until they overlaid because their alarms were off.

Until last week I had a pay meter so at least once a week when it ran out of money :p

But proper power cut not since 2006 when I was writing my dissertation.

turns out the server room for the college network had a bit of a explosion in one of the boxs and that shorted out a few fuses or something, lol

Is that where you work? Also why did the backup supply fail? My ex bf used to install them and I've never known of them fail!
