Maths Exam..

ok, from talking about alevels in my last thread back to gcse's...

I've got 2 real mock exams this week and if I pass it means after christmas I can drop maths and use those periods to focus on something else.. I just need to get a C...

I have been doing loads of revision, been doing fine in my math lessons, but when I do practice papers I can't get a C, I always get a D! Every single maths paper I do I get a D, I have never passed in my life! :(
And to make matters worse i lose out on ALL my maths lessons next week because we have mocks that week aswell -.-

so basicly, what i'm trying to ask is, is there any other revision techniques for maths I could try? I've done loads of practice papers, written notes, made revision cards, got a podcast thing from my teacher I'm going to do in a minute, read through my CGP textbook... I'll probably read thorugh my maths exercise books to..
But is there ANYTHING else I can do?! I had till Tuesday for my non-calc and Friday till my calc... Any suggestions would be amazing atm :(

    Do you have a friend who is good at maths and can help you?

    The BBC bitesize website may help you. http://www.bbc.co.uk/learning/subjects/maths.shtml I'm sure if you post the question(s) you're stuck on, someone on here might be able to help you?

    Ok, it's kind of hard to explain the stuff I'm really stuck on (need graphs and so on) But three things that keep popping up in the practice papers and that i do NOT get are:

    Simultaneous Equations: E.g.
    4x - y = 2
    y = 2x + 1

    What is: X =
    Y =

    and then,

    Work Out 64 1/2
    Write your answer as fraction

    and another thing is...

    Solve 4x + 2 > 3x - 19

    Other stuff is at the back of the practice paper with like triangle angles and some weird graphs, but i haven't been taught that because it's A grade and stuff, we've only been taught upto B.

    Simultaneous Equations: E.g.
    1) 4x - y = 2
    2) y = 2x + 1

    You want to make y the subject on both sides, so...

    add y to 1)..... 4x = 2 + y

    then subtract 2 .... 4x - 2 = y

    Now your two equations are y = 4x - 2 and y = 2x + 1

    so..... 4x - 2 = 2x +1
    add 2 ....... 4x = 2x + 3
    take 2x ..... 2x = 3
    divide by 2 ...... x = 1.5

    now substitute x for 1.5 ... so, y = 2(1.5) + 1 and therefore y = 4

    check it. 4(1.5) - 4 = 2 .... this is right, so x=1.5 and y=4

    Work Out 64 1/2
    Write your answer as fraction

    multiply 64 by two. ...128

    add 1 to 128 = 129

    therefore it is 129/2

    if you want a formula, n x/y = (ny+x)/y

    I'm not sure I've explained this very well but I think it's what you're asking.

    Solve 4x + 2 > 3x - 19


    add 19 to both sides ..... 4x + 21 > 3x
    subtract 3x ....... x + 21 > 0
    subtract 21 .................. x > -21

    this means that x could be -20.99999999, -20, -19 etc

    It's still a bit fuzzy but thats probably 'cos I've had a veeeeeery long day,

    Applying the techniques Grace has mentioned, maybe you can make up some questions and answer them? That's all the practise you can really do. The BBC link I posted, has some practise questions and does talk you through the steps you need to do.

    What Grace has said, is how I've been taught.

    Had the first exam today, and sure enough there were Simultaneous Equations.. I don't get how to do them still :L but I had a wing at it and hopefully got at least one mark for working outs,

    aw thank you :) i might do at some point, got revision to do now and after school things these couple of days - but I'll probably get horribly stuck on something :P x

    Sine = Opposite/Hypotenuse Cosine = Adjacent/Hypotenuse Tangent = Opposite/Adjacent.

    Yes. It's to do with finding out the angle of a right angled-triangle.

    I have no time to take extra classes, I've missed all my lessons apart from 1 week this because of mock exams, and I miss tommorows, but I might get to have an extra lesson last instead of technology :thumb:
