If you do go to America, I suggest road-tripping some of it. Route 66 of course, and LA-San Fran is supposed to be one of the most scenic routes, too.

arhh sorry if you feel this thread has 'ended' and im therefore bringing it up again...but had to throw Africa out there. i went in april and had the most amazing time. kenya, uganda, tanzania and zambia. tanzania in particular was awesome..the island of zanzibar is a must see...so many good hostels and i think really rewarding to say you've been to africa, seen giraffe, hippos, lions, elephants, crocodiles etc... and avoided malaria!
