Skin tag

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Ok, so i have a skin tag, down there, at the back

It doesnt hurt or itch, its just there and i havent had it checked by the doctor or anything.

Will guys be put off by this? I know its an area that not a cause for concern as far as cosmetics go but i have a kind of fuck buddy friend who's getting more interested in that area and im a bit embarrassed about it. :(

Should i get it checked by the doctor? Anyone know the usual procedure for removing them?

I doubt they'll remove it for cosmetic reasons, from personal experience !!

You can tie it off with a bit of cotton thread and it'll 'die off'.

From personal experience, absolutely not, nope, never! :) it's just skin.

I would suggest seeing the doctor and see what they say - depending on what it's like they might be able to cut it or freeze it off.

Got an appointment with the doctor next week to have it looked at and hopefully removed.

Bit nervous though cos its a male doctor

If it makes you uncomfortable Lexi, you could always ring up and ask if you could see a female doctor instead. Even if it isn't your usual doctor, if you say it's for a personal reason, they are usually happy to try and help if they can.

He has probably never seen parts of female anatomy and will have NO IDEA what he is doing! be wary!

But what if he's mean, some doctors are just horrible and unsupportive :(

Have you seen any doctor at that practice who you thought was particularly nice? I would phone up and change my app to one I knew would be nice, rather than worry in case one was horrible.

No, only ever a female nurse but apparently it has to be a doctor for this. Im not even sure if they have female doctors (its the uni medical centre), but i might just ring and ask

Can you determine this by the doctor's sex?

Try not to worry, they go into the profession to help people. They know it is uncomfortable for their patients and I'm sure they have lots of experience making you comfortable and what you have, they have seen before. It will probably be one of the better things they see in a day ;) (not in a pervy way, just in a least gross kind of way)

I've been to a few different gynos and the first appt is always nothing but meeting with the doctor and their female nurse (if it is a male doctor) and making sure that you are comfortable with them and asking any questions and airing your concerns. Could you ask for something like that if it is not already in place?

Do you mean could i ask for a female nurse to be present? I might do if i cant get a female doctor.... or i might just stick with the guy.

It took me a little while to get the courage to even make the appointment so if i can do that, im sure i can get over having a male doctor

Well I ment the meeting before the exam, but sure, the nurse too. ;) Though that might be standard practice.

Oh i dont think i have a consultation, just gonna go, have it looked at and then talk about having it removed, either there and then or at a later date.

Well I hope all goes right, and if you feel uncomfortable, don't be afraid to ask for somebody else in the room, or to take your time before you jump into the whole thing.

We have a different system in the UK. Typically, you don't refer yourself to a specialist, you go and see a GP- a general practitioner. If they feel you need specialist assistance they then refer you on to someone like a gynaecologist. For sexual health and physiotherapy it is more usual to refer yourself but most other issues you go through your GP first.

In my experience, females are more sensitive to recognising what other females might be sensitive to. I don't doubt the professionalism of GPs regardless of sex/gender but, when whopping my bits out I have found it easier to have gone with a female.

I didn't say anything about a refferal, just giving my two cents of always meeting the doctor before your actual appointment and seeing if that was what was going to happen, or if it could be an option to help ease any insecurities.

Nope, not the referal bit, just that you mentioned seeing a gyno, which it's very unlikely she will be seeing. I was just explaining how it is more usual for UKers to just see a GP, whatever the issue.
