Love 'em or hate 'em ?

Most are ok, some i really like, others are just wank.

Currently liking -

Saint Delia - What i really like about her is that she actually TEACHES you how to cook in her shows. She'll do something, like say dust cherries with flour then tell you WHY she did it. (helps stop them sinking in a cake)

Nigella - Delia with a high sex drive and breasts :) She's very poetic in the way she speaks which i find really nice/attractive ?? and she also tells you why she does something.

Ina Garten (Barefoot Contessa) - Started watching her on UKTv Food. Delia's American sister :D But my God does she use a lot of butter and cream.

Heston Blumenthal - Interesting but ffs who has a freezer that goes to -80c to make clear soup ?

Currently hating -

Jamie Oliver - Twat

Anthony Worrell Thompson - Fat Twat

Gordon Ramsey - Fucking twat

Rachel Allen - Silly Twat (oh look at me, i've got a kitchen and a camera let's make a TV show)

    Ditto.

Hugh Fearnley-whittingstall, Gordo and Raymond Blanc are all top.

Sophie Dahl needs to fuck off and go dip her head in a deep fat fryer. Not really. A little bit.

ETA: Rick Stein can be good - when he's not being a pretentious bell-end.

I loved Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares" series. Quite apart from the morbid pleasure of seeing how clueless some restaurant owners can be, he came up with some incredibly simple and delicious dishes that contained few ingredients and required no recipe to successfully reproduce at home. Tarte Tatin (upside-down caramelised apple pie) springs to mind.:yum:

Nigella pisses me off!! Everything she does is so fake! 'Ooooh look at me, im the perfect mother who loves cooking for perfect children, and at the same time im gonna flash my tits to the camera and act like im in a porn film'

Seconded. I've never seen anything quite so nauseatingly smug and self-satisfied as that crock of shit show. Her prancing about a television set kitchen pretending she's having her oh so beautiful friends over for a rustic supper makes me want to hurl. And then there is her hilarious commentary on the food:

"This soup is like a cockney ragamuffin dressed in a cashmere sweater". "This is the kind of food one should really eat with a chilled glass of trebbiano on a terrace on the Amalfi coast".

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Why do we even need her, anyway? Isn't Nigella already covering this base, and doing a far better job?

I used to like Gordon Ramsay, but now I can't stand him. He's become an embarrassment, an absolute walking parody of himself, screaming obscenities in the face of anyone and everyone because some obnoxious arsehole of a producer has told him he's not being quite aggressive enough. The American version of Kitchen Nightmares was painfully embarrassing to watch.

Yeah, fair comment. When it comes to telling and showing you how to cook top quality food I always thought he was spot on. I've little interest in his sweary, completely ego-driven shows.

I dislike Nigella. Her voice bugs the living crap out of me.

Gordon Ramsey I don't mind on TV, his books though are really good.

    Heston and Hugh .

I like Phil whatsisface that's married to Fern Britton, but that might be because I think he's quite good looking .

Thirded or fourthed on Miss Dahl. I mean who the fuck is she anyway ? I'm assuming she's daighter/grand-daughter of the great Rhoald Dahl ??

Famous dad doesn't make you a good cook worth watching.

She was a plus size model, strutting her stuff for all the none skinny women, until she lost a lot of weight... But yes, famous off the back of her grandfather's talent me thinks.

agree completely. it's just aspirational psuedo 'twee' tv that rams a lifestyle down our throats (or eyes) that is entirely unatainable.

as for chefs.. i love heston, he's a genius. im also liking a lady called gizzi. her recipes always seem to have a new spin on them and she's young, fun and .. a punk.

the kitchen that sophie dahl cooks in isn't even hers - it's rented for the show. So fake. At least Delia cooks in her own kitchen ;)

my favourite are the Hairy Bikers.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Oh yes, love the Hairy Bikers!!!
And the bald guy who cooks on Something For The Weekends.
And Fern Britton's hubby.... well done her i say!

I find watching Nigella nauseating. It's like she's trying to hump all her ingredients. Totally agree on the smugness of the Dahl, too. And that overly smiley aussie guy - Bill someone? Ultra sinister.

I  the Hairy Bikers too! And Raymond Blanc. He's so french!

what, like "stir in an amber swirl of golden syrup" *lick lips, look at camera seductively*
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I think I heard her describe chocolate as 'voluptuous' once :sour:
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
The Hairy Bikers definitely. They cook food that I'd actually eat.

They have a show here called diners drive ins and dives, hosted by a guy who wasn't stylish in the 90's... goes to all these resturants... oh my god I love it but I can't watch it because I get so hungry! The last one I saw featured http://www.meltbarandgrilled.com/melt-challenge/ and I nearly wet my pants. I could totally do that. Minus the fries :yuck: Less than 400 miles away, I feel a roadtrip is in order!

But he isn't a cook so I guess not really related to this thread.

I like the original Iron Chef. Morimoto rules.
