water in an iron

I wish I was interested in iron water filters or iron in my water or iron supplements, but I can't get the right key words to find out if you need water in your iron. I'm having an argument about it. I say you only need water when you want to use the steam function but he says you always need to put water in it, even if you are not using the steam function.

What do the masses of thesite say?

I think you only need it for the steam function. The only other reason I could imagine would be for cooling, but that would make no sense, because it can regulate the temperature itself.

Use distilled water however, or you are ruining your iron.

I wikihow'd it but it didn't say much about it, however the best line:

"Don't make grilled cheese sandwiches with your iron, or iron your hair - it gets the iron dirty."

It's just for the steam or squirting water.

you can buy irons that don't have any steam capability, and they have no water resevoir

Stop ironing, it's bad for your relaxing time.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions that, as usual, I am right :p

And no worries, I would never waste my time ironing clothes or anything... just this dumb crafty project... can't remember the last time I've used an iron anyhow. If a spin through the dryer can't take out the wrinkles then the wrinkles were just ment to be.

Heh, I only ever use my iron for craft, too :p Now it's broken in protest :(

The others are right, you only need water if you're using the steam bit. Old irons never even had a place for water!

If it's a steam iron, then you're making hard work for yourself by not utilising the steam.
