Are there any albums your parents listened to when you were younger, that bring back good memories? My dad had a shitty little Metro with about 3 tapes in it, so we got to know them well!

There was a record my parents always listened to, but neither of them can remember it now. It was something that had the words 'the wheels go round without a sound' in, and I think it was a about a woman who rode hellhounds to this castle every night and had to cut a piece of grass each time until the garden was bare. It was a folk song, and I think it was sung by a woman, so if anyone has any idea what song I'm talking about, could they tell me? :)

    Not this is it?
The wheels go round without a sound –
    The maidens hold high revel;
    In sinful mood, insanely gay,
True spinsters spin adown the way
    From duty to the devil!
They laugh, they sing, and – ting-a-ling!
    Their bells go all the morning;
Their lanterns bright bestar the night
    Pedestrians a-warning.
With lifted hands Miss Charlotte stands,
    Good-Lording and O-mying,
    Her rheumatism forgotten quite,
    Her fat with anger frying.
She blocks the path that leads to wrath,
    Jack Satan's power defying.
The wheels go round without a sound
The lights burn red and blue and green.
What's this that's found upon the ground?
    Poor Charlotte Smith's a smithareen!

My dad listened to... and still listens to... everything.
But the one thing he used to listen to all the time, and I think he listened to it more because I loved it, was a single song...

    Oh man :d.

My dad was a Meat Loaf man. Bat Out of Hell

My favourite memories of my mum's music involve road trips listening to M People, ELO, James ('Laid' mostly) and This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours by the Manics.

    Good times

I think I had a fairly poor introduction to music. The only tapes my mum had in her car were Elton John's greatest hits, and War of the Worlds.

Oh, and she had Pinky and Perky's Pop Parade on LP :chin:

In Dad's car, Diva by Annie Lennox or Made in Heaven by Queen.

In Mum's car, Blood Brothers or the soundtrack to Peter's Friends.

My father has a lot of LPs. I listened into them one day when he was out and liked a lot of it (I used to hate his music as a kid).

Typical stuff, The Who, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Dire Straits, Led Zeppelin...

In the car it was always The Levellers, which is alright, or Bat Out of Hell, which is torture.

And apparently when I was a baby, I listened to Voodoo Child a lot, which explains why the first time I remember hearing it some years later, it sounded really familiar.

I had an upbringing with step parents as well as blood parents. The 4 parents between them covered classical, jazz and pop music. Pretty much across the board. When I say classical music, I mean the adjacent time periods too like baroque, romantic, going into modern.

Since most of us are talking about pop music, my parents are responsible for the following, and I grew to like most of them too:

    - Steely Dan
    - The Beatles
    - The Police
    - UB40
    - Nik Kershaw
    - Roachford
    - Mike and the Mechanics
    - Joe Jackson
    - David Sanborn

Looking at most of those I'm starting to feel alot better about subjecting my kids to Green Day, Kula Shaker, Band Of Skulls, Pearl Jam etc

Must admit I scored well when I downloaded Plan B the other day...
