    Most governments govern after having won far fewer than 50% of the total votes cast, so one could argue most governments don't have the confidence of the majority of the people who bothered to vote (let's not even calculate the entire population including those who didn't vote).

    It does seem a bit unsettling though what this lot have done.

    In some countries, voting is compulsory - maybe that might be an idea?

    I'm still convinced that more people would vote if they could vote for something and know it counted, rather than having to vote for one of the least hated of the two that are most popular in their area (if you're lucky enough to live in an area where there's actually a realistic chance of a close contest). I knew that I could've stayed home and it wouldn't have made a difference, for example. As it was, the local elections were on, so I was going anyway.

    Sure thats at least (to some extent) the publics fault for being swayed and influenced by the media.
