Looking for a word:

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
So my sentence is:

As soon as I heard a male's voice enter our apartment, I looked at Kath with a look of _______

I believe the word is - to want to know more about who this person is. I can imagine I would raise my eyebrow. I think I may have just realised the word I'm looking for is intrigue, but for some reason I think there may be another word and it starts with C.

Any thoughts? For now, I will use 'intrigue'.

Well, I presume that you are using 'intrigue' as a word to describe 'arousing curiosity' rather than 'conspiracy' ... in which case, I can't think of a word that singularly starts with a 'c' which would fit.

Has your character 'guessed' who the male voice might be? Or is the character more surprised and inquisitive?

I turned and gave Kath a questioning look.

You're right yeah, and intrigue works, but Rubberskin works too. Cheers guys, was just having a right mind block.

    That's a good one. :thumb:

I suppose you could say, using the 'c' word, "I turned and gave Kath a curious look."

You could have a look of curiosity.

But you probably don't want to look at someone with a look of anything. That's a lot of looking :p

Maybe you could flash Kath a curious look?

    I'd go with something like

'As I heard a man's voice floating in from the aprtment door, I flashed a look at Kath as if to say "Who's that?"'

    or

'My face was a mask of curiosity as I heard a male's voice in the apartment'

The original phrasing erks me somewhat, as it reads as though a voice has entered the apartment bereft of an owner.

Hm, I think the word you are looking for is "butt".

You raise a very good point here.

    I like Mist's option of:

'As I heard a man's voice floating in from the aprtment door, I flashed a look at Kath as if to say "Who's that?"'

Cos that's exactly what happened. Churrs guys.
