Obama = Anti-christ

Or so, apparently, 14% of Americans and specifically 25% of Republicans believe according to a poll which is being widely reported today.

Just in case anyone is in doubt, let me post links to pictures of the two:

This one, is President Obama
This one, is the Anti-christ.

Wait.... what?!

A THESITE.ORG EXCLUSIVE: Following the results of a poll which said that 14% of Americans and specifically 25% of Republicans believe that Barack Obama is actually the anti-christ, we here at Stargalaxy News have conducted our own poll asking what the British public thinks. The result was shocking - 103% of all people asked in the poll (how it came up to 103%, nobody knows, but...) think that Republican voters in the USA are utterly, utterly retarded.

Why aren't they making more of a fuss about something else US-related - namely, the video doing the rounds on YouTube of Dubya shaking the hand of a victim of the Haiti earthquake, then using Bill Clinton's shirt to wash his hands straight after?

Trust Bush to keep putting his foot in it.

I was speaking to some Americans about this, and apparently every president in the history of America (or at least since the rise of right-wing religious fucknuttery) has been called the anti-christ at one time or another. Trying to bring healthcare to 30 million Americans? Trying to make sure insurance companies can't deny people treatment they've paid for? What a bastard!

Lol at Bush btw. He can't do anything right, can he? Even when he's fronting a valuable charitable cause, he manages to put his foot in it. He's like the American Prince Philip.

In that case, the USA had better not ask Bush to go and meet any Chinese people...

Almost every president we've had has been accused of being the anti-Christ at one time or another. This is no big surprise. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Appreciate that. Still quite a high percentage though, wouldn't you say?

ETA: Also, what about the other aspect of the survey. I kinda focussed on the humourous aspect, but how many still think he's Muslim?

Every nation has a share of complete imbeciles. However it might be fair to say the US' share of such people seems far higher than most other Western countries, and to levels that are, frankly, worrying.

I think America just has a media culture that makes a virtue out of ignorance. We do to some extent, but I think on serious issues, we're far quicker to tell idiots to shut up, or just ignore them, whereas in America, they seem to be given a voice. This idea that everyone's opinion is equally valid, even on things that are a matter of fact and expertise. Not to mention the fact that there is no compulsion on the American media to be impartial, so they have a television news culture that is the equivalent to our tabloid culture. And I'm sure you could find a lot of idiots in the stories in that. We often hear stories about how X percentage of kids can't recognise an onion, or something stupid like that.

And there's also the fact that surveys like this can be worded to get the answer people want. I'd say yes just for a laugh.

But I dunno, the other thing about America is that it is a land of vast contrasts. So you get some of the most progressive laws in the world on gay marriages and euthanasia in certain states alongside laws that would embarrass mediaeval England in others. You have the most advanced research in the world alongside the latest in quack bullshittery and religious literalism. And of course you have the widest wealth gap in the developed world (and not just the developed world).

    Spot on.

The thing is with America is that one is inclined to think of it as one country. In fact the "United States" are, to all purposes, 50 separate countries, each with their own laws, tax, education systems etc. Drinking laws are particularly confusing - and it isn't just age restriction. Try buying a beer with your meal in Utah, Texas or Colorado.

Did anyone see Sarah Palin making her comeback on television last night? Now she's scary. She gave up her role as Governor of Alaska to publish her life story and now appears to have her sights on Hollywood and the media. :shocking:

Well states do have their own powers but federal law still rules the roost mostly.

I find it more worrying that most Americans believe in God nevermind anti-christs and the like.
