This has needed to be said for so, so long. And who better to do it than someone who has sold more records than Bono will ever sell.
How Saints Bono and Bob think they can still think they can guilt trip people like you and me who are living on a budget while squirreling away their millions is quite beyond me. I guess charity doesn't begin at home after all.
It won't change jack, but someone in the music industry needed to say this. The fact that I hate U2's music isn't really an issue.
That is all.

I get the sentiments, but I do question the motives of some of the people who criticise the likes of Geldof, Sting, etc. It seems to be less about genuine concern for the issues these people represent being overshadowed, and more about getting rid of their own guilt at being a greedy wanker who never does anything for charity. There seemed to be delight recently from some quarters, when someone came out and said that most of the Band Aid money had been spent on weapons (from a man who was later wholly discredited). Why? Was it because they genuinely didn't believe that money could be put to good use in those countries? Or was it as I very much suspect, a simple exercise in guilt alleviation on the part of people who never do anything for charity? The same people who usually justify their lack of charity with the excuse that it all ends up going to corrupt dictators? The media in particular would have a leg to stand on if they were constantly covering the plight of the rainforest in South America without Sting bringing it to their attention, and were talking to real experts on the issue. And often it's not about giving money, it is about simply getting the message out there to effect political change. I'd love to be able to say "shut up Sting, what the hell do you know about it?" but you can only do that if we are hearing the voices of people with genuine expertise in the area, which we never do, because people would rather moan about celebrities.
But I agree about the preaching at gigs. Shut up and play your songs ffs.
