Transferring files between Macs and PCs

My other half has bought herself a Mac and I was wondering if there is any easy way of networking a Windows 7 PC to a Mac through the existing router wirelessly, or am I just being daft?

I've never tried networking before, so I don't know if I'm thinking of something that doesn't exist.

The two should be able to communicate easily, the trick is finding a language they both talk

This may be what you're after
Just find out the ip addresses of the two computers and make sure sharing is enabled on the pc and windows sharing is enabled on the mac.

To connect to the PC on the Mac, go to the Go menu in finder and hit connect to server (or just hit command-k). Then type in smb://pc.ip.address. For example, if your pc was 192.168.1.12 on your lan, then type in smb://192.168.1.12 and hit connect. Then you authenticate and then you can mount your shared volumes.

To connect to the Mac while on the PC, hit run and type \\mac.ip.address\mac username. If my Mac was 192.168.1.11, I would type \\192.168.1.11\zioxide. Then you should be able to authenticate and then you will be in your home dir on your mac.

Sorry, just realised you said Windows 7- not sure if that makes a difference to how it would work :(

it does, Microsoft tweaked the minimum required authentication with Windows 7, making it something that hasn't been reverse engineered yet.

works perfectly. Extremely easy to do, you need to do some registry editing on the PC but not much and if you make a backup it's not a problem anyway. Awesome! My first ever home network.
