    It's best to come clear with him. If he does not want you back, there is more than enough time to let grass grow over it and resume the friendship. If he admits to have feelings for you back there are still ways to make it work. Long distance, you moving, whatever.

    I have a certain analogy in my head: Not going through with your intentions/feelings, because of such a 'reason' (which shouldn't be any reason, in my opinion) is like having a serious stiffy and not do anything about it: The emotional blue balls of not knowing is worse than being just shot down.
