Dog Allergies..

Can you develop allergies to something that you didn't used to?

Because, whilst staying at my friend's house, I got really quite badly funny, like

my eyes were all red and watery, I couldn't breathe and was CONSTANTLY using

my inhaler and my nose was kinda runny and I sneezed 17 times in a row

It didn't feel like a cold, as my face and throat and eyes were REALLY itchy.

But when I was outside in the air, wearing a dogless person's coat, I did feel

quite a lot better.

I've never felt like that before at her house, but this is the first time her dog has

felt comfortable enough to sleep in my bed with me every night, so I've had a lot

more contact with it than normal.

Now I'm home, I've taken Pyriton (sp) and everything seems a lot, though not

totally, better. I have quite a lot of dog hair on my stuff though still, so could that

be why it hasn't gone away?

Is it doggy allergies or just some crappy coldy/fluey thing..?

I think you can have different reactions depending on how your general health is, like I react worse if I'm more rundown then if I do when I'm healthy.

Yes. As a 13 year old, I was allergic to soap and was like that for about 3 years. Even now I won't use it - it just dries my skin out.

Yes! You can. Existing allergies can get better or worse at any time, too.

If the antihistamine made you feel better, it's likely to be an allergy. Just make sure you have some with you next time you're going to be around dogs, just in case you have a reaction again :)

Thank you..! It's gone now I'm nowhere near any dogas anymore, so I'll just remember to take Pyriton with me :)

Sounds just like how I get when I've been to my mums around her cat, although when I lived with her I was fine as though I had built up some sort of immunity, so yes I think it can just happen.
