Are you supposed to shoot a bomb?

You can google "Lily Sussman" for text articles, I'm just posting this because it's what I was shown. In short, somebody crossing from Egypt to Israel had her computer shot because apparently they thought it was "suspicious" and gave no more details.

If they really thought this was a bomb they wouldn't have shot it, surely?

    Bombs are normally detonated instead of defused. Shooting it might be a crude and dangerous way, but it gets the same result.

    They clearly wanted an excuse to destroy the laptop. Most modern explosives won't detonate if shot.
