have you read this? this is a test going on in manchester airport.
"A trial of a scanner that produces "naked" images of passengers...will speed up security checks by quickly revealing any concealed weapons or explosives...the full body scans will also show up breast enlargements, body piercings"

You could do with losing a bit of weight.

We were talking about this in physics.
It seems a bit...pervy, as it gives a clear out line of about everything.
You can have a pat down instead though, but where does privacy come into any of this??

..are they going to be using it on kids aswell? Because that is just sick
    X

    I think sooo.
Although tbh I'd wayyyy prefer this than a pat down or strip search.

I think i read that the images aren't stored, one person looks at them, and then they are gotten rid of.

Not to mention, i reckon this is slightly better than a grown man/woman having to pat down a small child, especially in this day and age of parents thinking everyones a paedo

heh i've had a pat down lol. There was a really hot guy but cos i'm a girl i had to go to the scary woman :( bad times.

I think its alright, its not like they are keeping them.

Ha ha I'm flying from Manc at the end of the month and I'll definatly give it a go! They get rid of the image afterwards and there hardley going to be perving over them...and if someone is oh well!

Whys it sick? Its for security FFS..... shame what this world has come to when everything sick and peaodephillia (sp?)... if someone was saving pictures and distributing them as child porn then thats sick... but seeing a baby / kid naked is not sick anyway... nevermind as an x-ray for security purposes.

GF knows a guy who won't even get into the bath with his kid (under 1 yr old) because he's scared of what people might think with all the shit that goes on now-a-days.... sad sad sad world we live in!

how do we know for sure that they get rid of them?

because they'd need a really massive amount of storage for all those images and someone would realise if they had provisioned that amount of storage for something recently.

Why? It's just a glorified x-ray for a business purpose.

Do you think your doctor is sick if they arrange an x-ray to check for broken bones? I hope not.

    Fuss over nothing tbh.

I think the thing that bothers me most about it is the remote viewing. I think I'd rather strip off in the airport - at least I'd know who was looking at me.
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
I know what i'd use it for
Nah, just kidding. I don't really see the big deal, you have the right to turn it down in exchange for a standard search anyway. It's used for safety purposes only, and when you think about it, how many pedophiles tend to work in airports?

This is a little bit freaking weird though.. I don't like the thought of the kinds of people who'd be applying for this job if it went universal and was used in all airports.

Still, I guess it's the age we're living in, with terrorists trying to blow people up and all. I wonder if criminals could still hide stuff up their bum with this sort of scanner and get away with it ? Hmm. Interesting anyways ..

They wont let just anyone work there, the advertisement for the job wont be "naked scanner viewer needed" they will have someone who is trained and with nothing against their name.

I would like to think anyway :p

Yes, they'll sit them in front of a T.V. and turn on the playboy channel. If they get an erection, they wont get the job. So don't worry- they wont just let everyone do that job ;)

I can't believe we, as a nation are in such a state of ridiculous moral panic that a thread on airport security essentially turned into a thread about pedos perving over so called "naked" x-rays.

For one, get a grip, they are hardly nude images. Further, why on earth did paedophiles come into your mind when a scanner at an airport was mentioned. Surely a more relevent issue to pose would be "are there any health risks (cancer etc)"?

You are all peverse because sexual connotations and seering thoughts about paedophillia come into your head the second you see a bloody low depth X-Ray image intended to safeguard people at airports. Are we that sexualised, that paranoid and that sad?

This society is fucked up, obscene moral panic - what are you all, sun and daily fail readers?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
But- what if they are turned on by X-rays??? What would you say then aayy?? LOL

We never stop hearing about pedos in this country, I'm sick of all the woo surrounding the subject - and to be honest, it makes the whole situation a lot worse. How about some rational discourse instead of the generic knee-jerk reaction and begin actually working for a safer world?
  • Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
Um... has anyone actually been to an airport recently? It's not exactly babestation.

I think looking at the vast majority of the public naked would drag down the occasional peek at a hotty :sour:

Most people in this thread dont really care about the scanner, so dont have a go at everyone.
You are the one with the knee jerk reaction here

Will you be suspected as a terrorist if you deny to be scanned even if your reason is self-conscious? Even though it's for "security" and "finding terrorists", would this be over-used worldwide within in the future for literally ANYTHING because of "terrorism"? We've already seen how absurd anti-terror legislation is used.

I'd rather have someone see the outline of my bell-end for a few moments then have a chap explode next to me on a plane.
