Hi guys and girls

havent been on here for a while- a lots happening i guess!

anyhow, am getting married next year, and naturally have already started to look at frocks. my fiance (horid annoying word) and i have very little money, and i was looking to get a dress second hand or something
then I saw these dresses on ebay that claim to be made to measure from abroad-some of them look lovely.

has anyone used these before?? what were they like, were they good?

any help with this much appreciated

Cheers!

My fiancee is getting parts of her dress of Ebay I believe, however not the total thing (its a mystery to me) I would be dubious about oversea buyers, usally china/hong kong where alot of the textile factories are but again not brilliant communication and if you have a return problem, could cause hell, normal clothes not a problem but a wedding dress is pretty important. I wouldn't use oversea buyers for an essential item due to the "possible" hassle it could cause.

if you can get yourself down to london, there is a bridal charity shop which specialises in the obvious... i can't remember where but have a research...

Is there some kind of wedding dress rental store? I know there is for tuxedos and other suits. That might be the cheapest thing? I always found to buy a wedding dress really weird, you are wearing it exactly one day of your life.

One of my friends got her wedding dress from one of those made-to-measure Chinese factories on ebay for just over 50 quid and it was stunning. A lot of the dresses you see in bridal shops will be made in Chinese factories, you're just cutting out the middle man and saving a whole load of cash! You have to be really careful, though. Communication can be a problem. Check feedback obsessively and make sure you order early just in case!

I dont think buying from china is a question of quality or niceness, i think it is more an issue of trust and communication,

I didn't mean it like that.

i bought my prom dress last year on ebay, it was from china or somewhere like that. only cost me about £25 + no-one else was wearing anything like it:)
wasn't made to measure though + i know a prom dress is nothing like a wedding dress.
like other people have said just check the feedback. i've been ripped off before by a couple of sellers on ebay + i don't know whether it's worth risking something as important as a wedding dress. but if they aren't too expensive and there's alot of postive feedback then i don't see why not? as long as they seem reputable :)

That's why you obsessively check feedback

I deal with a Chinese factory every day for work (not clothing, but the principle is the same!) and there is a massive difference between the English communication skills of the employees. The woman I email most of the time is great, and while she doesn't speak the Queen's english, she does pretty damn well, and we always understand each other. But when she goes on holiday and leaves the other two in charge, well, it's like plaiting fog

lilywedding.com seems to have some good reviews and the dresses are supposed to be of amazing quality, and from what I gather you can pretty much have any dress you want made up. I think buying a dress from overseas you are always taking a bit of a risk, but if you find a good vendor then as someone else said all you're really doing is cutting out the middle man (and the extortionate prices). Good luck!

I happen to buy a Vera Wang dress. You have to think about marrying in a different perspective. If it is THE ONE, you will marry only one time, in love and you should celebrate this special day as big as possible. With the dress of your dreams, not caring if it costs 1000 or 3000 dollars. It is your special day and this should be celebrated and treated properly.

if only it was that simple.

Ah just take out a second mortgage and sell your car. After all, it is a whole few hours of your life :p

erm...good for you, but I look at it a little differently. the guy I am marrying means the world to me, I like you intend to only get married the one time-but I dont intend to get into debt to do it!! (although we are saving for it)I think that would not be such a great start to our marriage.if youve got the money, and an expensive dress and blow out day are what does it for you, then all power to you.
am still looking at dresses-have tried a few on now, and know now what suits me...
