non stop chocolate craving

Former MemberFormer Member Posts: 1,876,323 The Mix Honorary Guru
for the past 4 days i have craved nothing but chocolate brownies, oreo milkshakes, and chocolate pudding

i can't seem to stop this craving, its driving me mad because i'm not going to let myself pig out on anything because i've already put on weight from being ill most of this year...

any ideas how to stop it, or what it is that i am actually craving i.e. is it that i need iron or zinc or something? or is there something else healthy i can eat which might stop the craving? dark chocolate isn't working, and i can't go any where near carob with wanting to be sick...

any help would be fantastic!

When I get chocolate cravings I try to have a mug of Options hot chocolate or something similar instead. It's not very chocolatey really but it staves off the pangs quite well. Or, buy yourself a really small bar of something (like the tiny Milky Way bars you can get). Or some Skinny Cow chocolate icecream?

I second the idea about hot chocolate... maybe you can buy one of those really thick ones (like from hotel chocolat) so it will 'fill you up' as it were?

its not so much of a strange craving just totally insatiable!

i've caved in and bought chocolate pudding and 2 packs of oreo...

i just can do without piling on the pounds right now

Why didn't you get some good quality chocolate instead of that junk? Surely a couple of squares of Green and Blacks (or whatever) would taste a lot better, be more satisfying, and work out much the same, cost-wise?

I find a rich chocolate would cure the pangs far better than some 'chocolate flavour biscuit'.

I have a jar of Options on my desk for that very purpose

I would by a very small bar of really high quality chocolate at least 80% coco solids - eat half and turn the other into hot chocolate - preferably do both at the same time.

    Then eat some broccolli..

Get a pack of Galaxy Minstrels, leave them on a radiator or somewhere warm (sitting on them even) and eat the whole packet at once - the ultimate chocolate hit!

Then your craving will be sated for a little bit :D

don't eat lots of chocolate then. its not hard.

just drink some low cal hot chocolate or something. it might stop you craving it so much :)

I had a really strong sugar craving today, and I ate some grapes. They were really sweet and actually did the trick. It's tough, but try to think up less unhealthy sweet things that will satisfy the craving, like greek yogurt with a bit of honey. Or diet coke.

its not the sweetness, its the chocolatey ness...

its actually starting to seriously irritate me, because i'm eating so much i'm feeling sick but i can't really stop myself...

maybe i should drink more juice and see if that helps...

perhaps get out and do something to take your mind off it.

maybe eat chocolate.... then sip water... eat chocoate... then sip water, and you'll then be too full to eat more chocolate?

Food porn just makes me hungrier. This is why I am currently abstaining from food porn.

Incidentally, I disagree with the 'it's not hard' comment. When you're seriously craving something and it's available, it is hard. I get uber cravings for Krispy Kremes and even though I told myself "I'll only get one for myself" last time I went into one, I ended up buying a box of 12. Maybe I don't have willpower but sometimes it's not as simple as just not doing it.

Luby - the hot chocolate idea is a good one (though maybe not practical with the current weather :/). Find yourself a pack of white-hot chocolate. Half a mug and you'll be sick of chocolate for weeks :D.
