Love

It wraps its tentacles around you, squeezing tightly;
You start to strain for breath,
Its warm pulsating strength pulling you down,
Closer to the bottom,
Cocooning you in a shell of doubt, fear, anxiety and anguish.
The sun light shimmers in the distance freedom beams down from above,
The strong light like a vessel from heaven calls out to you.
But love has its grip,
The warm smothering shackles are hard to break,
Yet the fear of the unknown that lies above is strong,
Like a child willing to explore the meadows
You break from its tight grasp and swim to the surface.
The hot sun greats your pale love torn face.
You swim ashore and start to explore,
Where love will hold you no more.

    Interesting.
Have you recently broken up with someone?

And I can't work out if it's sad or not...
I mean... The idea of love being something negative and something you need to escape from isn't so good...
But then it's highlighting how being on your own can be positive.

I like poems that make you think.

One thing I would say though - do shackles really smother? If you change the word 'shackles' in this line then you won't have the repetition of it in the other line =]
