A Knighthood for Ted Kennedy?

No way!!!

Gordon Brown announced in his address to Congress on 4th March that Ted Kennedy is to be awarded an honorary knighthood for 'services to the US-UK relationship and to Northern Ireland.' This is an insult to Britain, to those innocents who died during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, and to those who currently hold the same honour. Throughout his career, Ted Kennedy has been no friend of our country. He was STAUNCHLY PRO-IRA when their campaigns were at their bloodiest and constantly railed against the British 'occupation' of Northern Ireland. He does NOT deserve such a merit. How can he be awarded the same honour as true, great American friends of the UK such as Ronald Reagan, Norman Schwarzkopf, George Patton and Dwight D Eisenhower? This is, after all, the man who fled the scene of a car accident that left a woman to die trapped underwater. His political career has been self-serving and opportunist - as was his role in the Irish peace process.

If you would like to vote against this, you can, here..

I never trust those petitions on the Downing Street website. Besides, politicians don't pay any attention to them - especially not a socially retarded chimp like Brown. You state that...

...doesn't this explain it to you? Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Gordon McBroon are two peas in a pod.

What else can we expect from a government which on the one hand said "we will never talk with terrorists", yet on the other talked to the IRA and gave prominent members of that organisations seats in government instead of the jail sentences that they deserved?

Still, not to worry. Perhaps Harriet "this is my moment" Hagperson can ask the court of public opinion to decide on this matter.

To be fair that was John Major's government wasn't it? The IRA was involved in open peace talks by the time Blair was elected.

And Heath, Wilson, Callaghan (and possibly Thatcher).

Strictly speaking though when Blair was elected they'd called off peace talks by bombing Canary Wharf and murdering some peelers and soldiers. They recalled a ceasefire soon after
