Is it true that your slate gets wiped clean after a certain amount of years, cos i have a few debts from years ago that im worried will affect me in a few years time when i get a mortgage?

Should i pay those old debts or as its been about 6 years will they not show up on a check. i was told this is the case?

thanks

You should pay them back regardless - you borrowed the money so you should pay it back.

They disappear off your record six years after you clear them (or last acknowledge them in writing through contact with the creditor).

i didn't borrow money, i got a phone contract out for a friend who died of sudden cancer, the contract kept sending me bills every month and i was young and at college so had no money to pay it, but yeah, i will go about trying to clear it up...

plus i have one of my own, a 80 pound debt to freeserve from 8 years ago...
