Anyone know anything about studying abroad and what financial help you can get? I'm considering it, but with no grant or loan, it would mean working in a country where I don't speak the language well.

Anyone with advice or experiences please share them.

^^ I know. That's why I asked on here, to see if there's anyone with experience or some knowledge. It appears not though. :(

Might be worth giving it a bit of time for people to pop in and give some advice - I'm pretty certain some people have done it before so may be along to help. The previous post has been pulled for spam though.

In the meantime here's some links that may help.

You can check out our information on Studying Abroad -
    http://www.thesite.org/workandstudy/studying/internationalstudents/studyingabroad

Along with the suggested next steps -

    The International Education Site
    http://www.intstudy.com/

AIESEC - The International Exchange Programme
    http://www.aiesec.org/

or IAESTE - An exchange programme run by the British Council
    http://www.iaeste.org.uk/

May also be worth asking our careers and study advisors on askTheSite who may be able to help -

Hopefully you'll find some useful info on through the links until anyone else pops up who can help. :)

How old are you, what do you want to study and where were you thinking of studying? Have you thought of applying for a course over here that offers a year studying abroad? Many departments in different unis have close links with universities abroad, at which students can then spend a year under the Erasmus programme. As well as getting a bigger student loan for this year you also get a non-repayable grant (or did in 2002-2003 anyway!). I studied History with German at Bristol and spent my 3rd year in Hanover, but I knew a guy who went to Hanover with the Maths department. German wasn't a part of his degree, but I think he did some preparatory lessons in his second year. Someone else I know studied Law and spent his third year at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where the language of instruction was English.

If you want to do the whole degree abroad have a sniff at JimV's links - and also if you have any firm idea of where you want to go, have a look at the university's website - it will almost certainly have pages for international students and hopefully links to financial issues/grants etc.

Good luck! It will be an amazing experience.....

During my degree they offered a year studying abroad between the second and third years. If you went somewhere in Europe they paid half of the tuition fees, and elsewhere you had to pay the whole fees. I'm not sure what the fee situation is now, but it might be worth contacting some UK universities if you'd be interested in doing a sandwich course like I described.
