thoughts and opinions please

I've been having ongoing pain for well over 9 months now.

When I first went to my doctor he did nothing about it even though he knew of my history with kidneys. Gradually each week the pains came more often and only after 6 and 1/2 months and a lot of my visits did he decide to refer me to a urologist.

Even after being referred, I waited another 3 months on my first appointment and scan. In all this time from day to 1 to now the pains got worse and more frequent, meaning my job didn't even want me there anymore because I wasn't able to make it to work some days and others I had to go home half way through my shift.

For a start I'm raging that my GP left it so long to be referred to a specialist but top it all off they've confirmed "we don't know what it is, It could be some sort of blockage or something"

I asked what was the next step, "more tests" No my GP said we are going to leave it that, to which I told him so I have to suffer these pains over and over again all because you's can't find the cause of my pains. He was happy enough to tell me that he would provide me with pain relievers but I have already tried them all, and no standard pain killers work.

Am I within in my right to demand that they get to the bottom of this, or even more to the point are they allowed to do this? to leave me undiagnosed and in pain.. I just don't get how they think that this is a good solution, they get paid over 50k a year for fuck all if you ask me.
Beep boop. I'm a bot.

Yes....you can always ask for a second opinion from your gp surgery...could make a complaint also to the surgery.

So sorry to hear you are in pain....you need it sorted it out.

Thank you, I'm actually getting tired of complaining to my doctor it's becoming almost impossible for me to care what they do anmore but all I know is that they are not doing anything right if they are willing to leave it undiagnosed.

I've also been on a doctors forum where he said there could be other possible causes for the pain so I'm going to bring this up at my next appointment and for my perosnal well being I hope that they can at least properly diagnose me.

No problem....just hate pain so I know how you feel and when doctors do not do their job properly it irrates me.

Good luck and you could also ask nhs direct to see what they have to say.

Do go back to your doctor...I know they have caused you pain but you do need to know what is going on.

Yeah, just go back and ask for a second opinion.

If it makes you feel any better I've been undiagnosed and in pain for 5 years now and still no joy. Plus 3 months is pretty quick for a referral appointment. I waited 14 months for Leeds ENT to see me. By the time I got the letter through I forgot I'd been referred.

I'm not pissed that I waited 3 months but that this could have been done long before that because of the 6 months beofre that I had to repeatedly attend the doc's until evetually he referred me to a specialist which in my opinion should have been done before that due to him not having any idea what the pains could be.

You make it sound like it's their fault thye don't know what's wrong with you. Been there and done that twice. Doctors don't know everything.

I'm sure they try to do all they can themseleves (medication, tests, etc) before sending you to s a specialist. Well, that's what they did with me any way.

No I make it sound like they are willing to give up and not do any more tests to find the problem, afterall isn't that what they get paid for?

Who's said to leave it at that, your GP or the urologist?

It sounds like it's beyond the scope of your GP, which is why they referred you, so it's unlikely now that they can fix something he couldn't identify before.

It might not be possible to get to a diagnosis, but you should work your way around a fair number of specialists before reaching the point where no one knows what's wrong.

I'd querey why the urologist hasn't done more, and go back to your GP and ask for more help, be that another referral, and decent pain management. If it's affecting your ability to work then you should probably also ask to see an occupational therapist to try and work on that.
