Okay well im trying to work out how much money i can save for some travelling next summer when i finish my placement.

First off how much would i be aiming to save for say a month travelling? Of course that depends on where i want to go, and still i dont know where yet.

Thailands a big option and i wanna go somewhere further a field and i wanna do something worthwhile.

I'm thinking i could save upto about £2000-2400 .. so an open question, but where and what could i do for that kinda money? :D

Thailand is cheap enough once you are there. Your problem will be if you want to visit Eurozone countries or Pacific places, 'cos then the expense can really rack up.

Well ideally i would like to go somewhere within Asia but i dont know if Thailands just abit too commercialised now.

New Zealand was another thought, the scenary alone looks awesome!

philippines is pretty awesome and easy enough to get away from the tourists as you have 7000 islands to choose from.....

3000 should last you quite a while - IF youre smart with your money! Thailand is obviously cheap place, but all the small things add up!

I should know - Im in india currently and have been here for a month - and my daily budget is waaay over what it should be!! I was aiming to spend about a fiver a day (accommodation and food included)
but as its turning out, im spending more like 10 pound. doesnt seem like much, but a tenner a day for 3 months.. a lot!!
Im going to try cut down and save my money more.

So yeah, 3000 should be fine, but maybe save up a lil more just in case? Some countries are more expensive than others and the money may be gone before you know it! .. especially if you head to somewhere where theres lots of boozing, clubs etc. :)

i managed with about 3000 to travel in america for a month so if ur careful i shouldnt see a problem in cheaper countries! your best way to save money is really reall shop around for flights cos they'l be your biggest expenditure!!!

    Can I come?

Yes, yes you may. Just one condition. No daim bars. If i see you sneaking out a Daim bar from your luggage you will have to sleep on the single bed.

I'd cross Thailand off your list if I were you, its not exactly all that stable at the moment. Vietnam is supposed to be absolutely amazing. Or South Africa, you would have to be stupid to spend £3000 in a month there, if you budgeted £50 a day there you could live very well including everything.

    .. Stable compared to what?

Does this look unstable to you?

I'd recommend Thailand for sure having spent several month there this year already.

    A) As has been rightly pointed out their airports are all closed so getting there is an issue

    B) They are clearly in the middle of what could well be a quiet overthrow of their government - or of course it could be less than quiet as both the army and police have been asked to remove the protesters.
