List of household bills for those thinking of moving out

Thought I'd create this so if you were thinking of moving out, you'd have an idea of what kind of bills to expect.

Feel free to add anything to this list.

Mortgage - probably your biggest monthly payment.
Electricity bill
Telephone line rental
Internet subscription
Insurances - (Income protection, house insurance (building and contents), life insurance, mortgage protection)
Travel costs (i.e tube passes)
Water rates (possibly split between water and drainage)
TV Licence
Mobile phone bill
Council Tax
You may have to pay ground rent
You may have a gym membership

Keep adding!

    Gas bill?

And rent, if you are renting rather than buying.

Me and my boyfriend are planning on getting are own place soon and so i am doing lots of research about how much it will all cost etc. We're hoping to rent to start with and im sorted about how much rent is in our area but i was wondering if anybody could add to this thread the rough/average cost of all the bills mentioned? Would be a great help in sorting out what we can afford!

It totally depends who you go with, how much you use, how big the place is etc.

It's the bill you pay for your water. In Scotland it's in the council bill. In England you pay directly to your water supplier.

You could also be paying out for decorations and soft furnishings.

Aye, thought as much. Water is added onto council tax up here.
I should have figured that out for myself.
    Yay!
