Won't be the only reason - there's strong arguments for a Leeds-Manchester-Sheffield nexus, potentially (long term) it could almost rival the South East as being the powerhouse of the economy.
They really are useless. The Tory Party is propped up by a man who refuses to answer important questions about his residential status and whether he, as widely suspected, evades paying tax in the UK. The Labour Party just about manages to stay out of bankruptcy by taking money off private equity tycoons. As for the LibDems, one of their donors ended up in jail!
I thought that as an EU citizen and the fact you are residing in this country, you would be entitled to vote?
Grandad & Dad were both railwaymen so who knows. Have to wait and see. Can't be any worse than Ruth Kelly.
The same can be said of ex-pats all over Europe as well. British ex-pats in Spain, for instance, can vote in local, regional and European, or indeed run for office (I think there used to be an English mayor somewhere in the Costa del Sol).
