  The UK has more then double the Aussie population so we should be getting better results then them in a lot of sports as we have more chances of finding exceptional sports people from the general population.

  By that logic China and India shoudl be the best at everyhting.

  The reason why they won so many gold is because the were hosting the games and through massive resources into the sports in which they won.
  
  Where was India then? Why does a small Island with a small popluation dominate the sprinting? Why are some of the best national football teams from tiny little places where as the the China and India don't have a football team worth talkign about.
  
  It's not about the size of the countries popualtion in total, it the money and resources spent in attracting members of that population to sports and then suppoting them. Some sports are more popular that others depending on where you go.
  
  Here in Britain the most popular sports are without a doubt football and rugby.
