College Won't Buy Me A Laptop - What Do I DO?

I can't use computers with 15" monitors and the minimum I can use is 20". All the computers at college are 15".
I have asked if they'd buy me a laptop, so that I would be able to come in (if I need to) and do private study. I have been told that this isn't possible and that I'd just have to use the yellow monitor cover I was given. of course, this doesn't help much. So what do I do now? I can't afford to buy a laptop for myself. (they're a least £1200) They are aware that I'm unable to use computers with standard size monitors.

because shes registered blind/partially sighted, fuckwit
Exactly. And glasses don't help anyway.
Hellfire - they do have a computer with a large monitor, but it's being able to have access to it as and when I need it.
And to the op: you must have a computer you can use adequately for you to be able to post on this site..could you not use that for college work?
eta: good argumentitive skills scc, resorting to namecalling. How was i supposed to know the op was registered blind/partially sighted? i dont read every single post on thesite..(and shouldnt have to)
There's no way I'm even going to attempt to transport my computer and monitor to college every day.
£1300 isn't half a million. And buying me a laptop with the screen size I need comes under the disability discrimination act.
I realise that, but you're surely not the only person in the country with this issue, why should you get special treatment is the point i was making, if the college buys one laptop for you then surely everyone else who needs the facility (in different colleges/courses) should get the same treatment..hence half a mil estimated
I'm not getting special treatment. The thing is, I need to have a computer/laptop that has a monitor of 20" and be able to have access to it (at school) when I need it.
if that doesnt work out then surely they'll have you buy you a laptop or provide partial funding towards one, if you can prove that its affecting your ability to be on the course.
shop around!
Im sure youd get priority over the 'suitable' computer at your college given your circumstances.
Get them to buy you a monitor!
Have you tried the usual high contrast accessibility options? Press Alt-Shift-PrtScrn
Thing is, I would have guessed that if you are visually impared it will be the pixels per inch (as in, the level of detail) rather than the overall size of the screen. But that's just my 2p and having worked with someone who had a visual impairment the high contrast was pretty useful.
You know, as funny as it might sound, its harder to read things on a 20" monitor because the pixels per inch typically are denser i.e. higher resolution. If you go for a 22" it will have less eye strain, the school should be able to get one for around £150. You want pixels per inch to be as low as possible really...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_displays_by_pixel_density
17" @ 1024x768 = 75
17" @ 1280x1024 = 96
20.1" @ 1680x1050 = 99
Notebook displays are even higher so I can't see how they would help. I'm not trying to be patronising as obviously you know your needs best, but I know a lot about computers and have worked with people who have needed special arrangements because of visual impairments.
Me neither, but you can change the background colour.
You don't need a laptop at all.
Whether you need a 20" monitor at all is highly debatable, as you could reduce the resolution on a smaller monitor to obtain much the same effect.
alls you need to do is change the resolution. FACT.
Even if this was false why wouldnt they just get you a 20" monitor for £100 instead? You just need to plug it in every time you wanna use it.
Either way, if changing the resolution will hurt your eyes so will a 20" monitor and a 20" laptop.
